Have only ever watched this once! My brother bought me this bluray for my birthday and am only getting around to watching now ( for the time that's in it!)
Am always intrigued by film makers with an extremely low budget trying to make their passion project!
Director Tobe Hooper does a great job, really relentless in depicting the utter horror imposed on a bunch of innocents by Leatherface and his family! Considering the low budget, its really well made! I watched the accompanying documentary 'The Shocking Truth', which shows how difficult thd shoot was, in scorching Texas heat and rancid smells from decaying animals ( and b.o. actors who had to wear the same costumes as no money meant no changing!) And also how hard it was to get a distributor, eventually snapped up by a company that the Mafia were behind, and when it became a huge hit, the cast saw little of the profits! And of course it was sensationally banned in Great Britain by the infamous James Ferman for many years!
A few sequels and remakes happened, but the original is still strong stuff, holds up very well to modern day horrors!
Yes, pretty much down to Hoopers direction.
The cast though are pretty amateurish, though I loved the guy in the wheelchair!
You won't hear me say anything about how hot Jodie Comer is. :-?
Fantastic cast all around, but those two in particular stood out.

I try to watch everything that both Ridley & Tony Scott have made. It's very, very hit and miss (lol) but when they are good they sure are!
Spot on. I can't wait to see The Last Duel eventually. I like the Rashomon vibes the storytelling gives off.
^I love that shot. The pale white of the mask, slowly appearing through the darkness, so creepy.
A stone cold horror classic, but not a slasher. 6 deaths in the film, 5 are human, 4 of them are shown on screen.... that's low for a slasher. Thinking of it as a psychological horror, with a lot of stalking, Halloween.... it's more appropriate, I think. The sequels, no doubt inspired by Friday The 13th, are a different matter.
The greatest movie of all time.
Just watched it today! Still scary!
Horror of Dracula is one of my all-time favorites. I plan on watching it during my Halloween marathon. Agree about the comedy bit-the movie has such a serious tone, it doesn’t fit. Peter Cushing is one of my top 10 favorite actors, and Lee is the best Dracula. I never tire of this classic.
An American Werewolf In London
One of my favourite films. Seen it an unhealthy number of times, but never gets old. Naughton and Agutter have great chemistry and the effects still look incredible. Especially on the Bluray. Which also has some great extras.
A timeless film IMO.
The trailer looked amazing, but I was sure fooled. One of the most pointless and boring films I have seen.

Decided to go old school for a choice of horror to watch on Halloween!
Director James Whales classic take on the story. Claude Rains takes the lead as the scientist, who, after discovering the secret of invisibility, struggles to find a cure, while avoiding the attention of the locals and the bumbling Police, all the while going slowly insane!
Whale creates great atmosphere, and good humour in depicting the plight of the main protagonist with some clever effects!

I didn't know this movie, but I watched the trailer and it does have some distinctive images. But there are some films you watch where you feel there is no substance to them, things just happen and you think "so what?", and then the film ends. I suppose it was like that for you.
Yes, huge disappointment. Yesterday, I rewatched a film I saw in the cinema in the 80s,
FITZCARRALDO (W. Herzog, 1982)
and had a much better time. Not Herzog s best, but top three. My favourite being Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes, with Nosferatu right behind. All of them with Kinski in the lead.
Spectre
this film is also not as bad as I remember it in fact I actually like everything up until the Rome chase
Wondering why Miss moneypenny has sour cream in her fridge and then coming up with a whole story in my mind about perhaps she will have a taco party... should not be RUNNING THROUGH MY MIND DURING A CAR CHASE!

The PTS is nearly Perfect (I would of preferred the Helicopter pilot try and kill Bond before Bond started attacking him)
No time to Die
I will say this spoiler free I don't know how to feel about this film. And initially I was upset by that but now I am almost thinking the point of this film is for you not to know how to feel about it. Which is kind of interesting I plan hopefully to see it one more time in theaters.
Halloween 6 the producers cut Kind of
So a Large portion of the producers cut is o you tube there is a chunk not there due to nudity so I had to watch the theatrical cut version of those scenes.
but overall I love this film. it's insane and makes no sense at all but man is it fun.
Jaws 2
I will be watching the original before the end of the year but for this film its slasher film with a giant shark. Many don't love the sequels to Jaws but I do love 2 and 3 and this film is honestly perfect.

I am appreciative of these comments yeah Skyfall and Spectre and even No time to die have some great moments but also some weak moments as well its crazy how the Craig era is really split between Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace / Skyfall- No Time to Die
Loomis firing 7 shots from a gun that only holds 6 bullets, sets the slap dash tone for the rest of the film. The Ben Tramer scene is hilarious for the wrong reasons. The Hospital.... without a doubt, the most understaffed Hospital ever. I have worked in a Hospital, and though there are areas that don't get so much footfall even in day, that wasn't even a skeleton crew. Couldn't have been more than 10 people, including that one security guy, plus the 2 ambulance crew.
Halloween IV: The Return Of Michael Myers
The mask.... the look of surprise on the mask just cracks me up.
"I can't wait to get home, change into some frilly underwear, play my new Cyndi Lauper cassette, and dance like there's no tomorrow. Wait, did I think that, or did I say that out loud?"
On the upside, I think this is Donald Pleasance's best performance as Dr Loomis, just beating out the original film.

I blow hot and cold on Wes Anderson. I always enjoy the look of his work but sometimes when he tries for drama and significance the results feel sketched in. Of all his films, I think Rushmore and Moonrise Kingdom have the best combination of depth and style.
The French Dispatch is blessedly light---it touches on deep subjects but without ponderousness or pretension. It feels like an opening a vintage issue of The New Yorker, but much of the pleasure also derives from seeing a director with a strong, unique style at the height of his powers. Filmmaking has become so standardized and bereft of style that I appreciate Anderson more than I used to. So many big movies are laborious computer animations pretending to be live action, with fantasy subjects portrayed through deadening naturalism, but Anderson's film is about the delight of movie-making and showmanship, of cutaway sets, elaborate backdrops, eccentric actors, eye-catching compositions, theatricality and sleight of hand. This is the best film I can think of seeing in a movie theater after the pandemic.
Members of this board will also be pleased to know that The French Dispatch features four Bond alumni--- Benicio Del Toro, Lea Seydoux, Mathie Amalric, and Jeffrey Wright---all in excellent form. I enjoyed Seydoux here more than in either of her Bonds and she shares the film's second "story" (its best in my opinion) with Del Toro. But Wright comes closest to stealing the entire movie with a rich, larger-than-life performance.
As part of the celebrations on “#GodzillaDay” (November 3rd), I watched the new 4K version of the very first Godzilla film at the new Alamo Drafthouse in lower Manhattan. And despite some trepidations (“oh, now were really going to see ALL of wires holding up Godzilla’s tail”), I thought that the 4K print looked really good. Plus, it’s just a great film. And it was great to see it on the big screen.
When I got home, I found out that Yoko Higuchi (a production assistant on 2016’s Shin Godzilla) was in attendance, and I’m in complete agreement with these sentiments:
Many “G” fans say that these films should be wall to wall monster action and that any “human stuff” only slows things down. I tend to disagree. Even in a movie where we must suspense belief (a 165-foot-tall radioactive monster?), there must still be a human story that we – the audience – can connect with. While Godzilla is certainly a “character”, the best of these films have always had a good human story that runs in parallel with the scenes of city destruction and monster battles. The first film certainly had that.
The Suicide Squad
I watched this on someone's recommendation; it's a fun and entertaining comic book movie.
Among the cast is Joaquin Cosio from Quantum of Solace.
If you are looking for a new release to check out, this is a pretty good one.
