And what do you think of Robert Downey Jr in that role?
It’s much more action oriented but I think he gave us a very fun Sherlock Holmes and wow RDJ looked so in shape.
1950s Matt Dillon (Gunsmoke) or Steve McQueen, I mean Josh Randall
1960s Maxwell Smart (the humorous equivalent of JB) or Mr Spock (Star Trek) or The Virginian or Hoss Cartwright.
1970s Steve Austin (better, faster, stronger) or Hawkeye Pierce (M*A*S*H) or Mary Tyler Moore or Bill Cosby (I can compartmentalise)
1980s Magnum PI (for his lifestyle) or MacGyver (imagine being able to make a nuclear reactor out of shoe laces and chewing gum!) or Sonny Crockett or Sam Malone (IMO a far more nuanced character than successors like Charlie Harper or Barney Stinson)
1990s Kramer (for his lifestyle) or Homer Simpson or Mike Logan (L&O)
2000s Omar (from the Wire - "Omar coming!") or Titus Pullo (Rome) or Olivia Benson (SVU)
2010s Raylan Givens (Justified) or John Reese (Person of Interest) or Richard Castle
Wow, thing have sure got darker in recent decades...
UK TV
1960s John Drake (Danger Man) or Simon Templar or Dr Who or anyone from Dad's Army
1970s Arthur Daley or Terry McCann or Jack Regan or Dr Who or anyone from The Good Life
1980s Leonard Jeffrey "Oz" Osborne or Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett edition) or Lovejoy or anyone from The Young Ones
1990s Poirot or anyone from Men Behaving Badly
2000s Dr Who or anyone from The Inbetweeners
2010s Dr Who, but really, I'm out of the loop...
I served Nathan Fillion at the restaurant I worked at a couple of years ago.
Cool, I really liked him in Firefly (aka Serenity) as well, just a pity that series didn't last longer, it was much better than most that have
Well, I love that character too. With a Fleming character and a Topol performance you really can't go wrong! :)
Has one of the best theme tunes too!
Also love how it always opened with an answer machine gag!
Jim Rockford was a cool dude!
John McClane
Neo
Stella Blómkvist from the eponymous Icelandic tv series.
Antonio di Pietro and Veronica Castelli from the brilliant Italian tv show 1992.
And how could I forget Boromir from LOTR…
Luke Skywalker
Apollo (Battlestar Galactica 1978)
Chris Reeve's Superman
James Kirk
Max Guevarra (Dark Angel)
Nikita
I'll watch this show someday. Garner had star power in spades.
Big fan of this show back in the day. Rockford Files & Harry O were my go-to detective shows.
Genie from Aladdin (1992).
Paulie Walnuts from The Sopranos.
Mayor Adam West from Family Guy.
Boomhauer from King of the Hill.
Luke Skywalker.
Quint from Jaws.
Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction.
Dr. King Schultz from Django Unchained.
Newman from Seinfeld.
The list is endless!
Absolutely, really hoping for a third part? Especially now RDJ is not so tied up with the Marvel franchise.
I've never seen anybody famous in real life. I did go to the same school as Donald Pleasance, though - several decades apart, I hasten to add!
That’s cool! On YouTube you can watch a play that stars both Donald Pleasance and Robert Shaw; two titans of classic Bond villainy, together. Can’t remember the name of the play though.

Planet of the Apes is by far my most favourite movies after the Bonds. The new trilogy with Serkis is probably one of the better movie trilogies ever!
Good call!
For me, one of the main TV characters is Lord Flashheart followed by three generations of Blackadders.
String fellow hawk,
Hawkeye (mash)
Film:
iceman (top gun)
Skipper (battle of Britain)
Mary (and all the other names she has, those magnificent men in their flying machines).
