    Fair enough. It’s just tiring to see people rip and tear down something you love. I remember you said something similar in the “Where Does Bond Go After Craig” forum recently; it’s so tiring to read what seems like relentless criticism about something you love and admire constantly that sometimes it’s hard not to get angry or irritated, especially now when it becomes personal attacks/assumptions on Brosnan’s character. Hope I didn’t come across as rude, and I apologize if I did!

    I certainly do get tired of the negativity, but to be honest when it comes to the actors in their personal lives I don't really extend it to that, because I'm not a fan of these people for themselves- I like James Bond. What Brosnan or Craig or Lazenby are like as people in their personal lives doesn't affect my affection for the films, and if I think they do something which I find to be poorly judged then I'll call it out.
    Lazenby famously made pretty much the worst decision in showbiz history(!) so he's clearly no genius; but that's okay, I can still enjoy his film as Bond.

    I agree with you. If Brosnan seriously was an anti-vaxxer and spreading that misinformation, then I would feel compelled to call him out as well due to the nature of what I do for living, and if a day ever comes where that does come out, you can bet I’ll be amongst the first to criticism him on that.

    At least we are lucky that 5 of the 6 Bond actors have yet to echo Sean Connery’s statements to Barbara Walters. As long as they don’t, they’re okay in my book!

    I've been rewatching Pierce's Bond films and even though he isn't the strongest in the "deeper moments" (mainly due to poor writing in TWINE) he is a good Bond and his performance is very rewatchable.

    The coldness in his eyes and voice when he says "Me Too" in TND is one of my all time favourite Bond moments

  • I just want another decent Brosnan film. It's been way too long. The Foreigner was possibly the last I enjoyed and that was mainly Jackie Chan's film.

    Lately he does seem to have had a bit a bad luck picking some projects. Though I thought his casting as Dr. Fate was superb even if the movie itself may have been subpar.

    Yes, it does. However, we did five performances out of him as Bond. I consider Everything or Nothing canon with the movie series. Also, I consider it ending on a high note for him, certainly over Die Another Day. Willem Dafoe is a classic Bond villain, and his partners in crime are on par with some of the classics. I wish EON would have been turned into a novelization. So, Pierce Brosnan is a rarity in James Bond: he came and left at the right times. Not too long and not too short. The quality of his productions are questionable, but he always shined in his performances.
  • Thank you for mentioning @Univex Pierce Brosnan seem to be unfairly treatment from some fan of James Bond. His films are very popular when I am growing up. Him also have good looks is cool in danger. Good for James Bond in time his films be.

    Pierce was definitely the right Bond for those films (even though part of me still wishes that Dalton had come back in triumph with GE!).

He had that star quality about him, and his presence along with Campbell’s is what makes Goldeneye feel so energetic for me. It was new era for Bond; they probably thought “let’s hit them fast and hard.” It’s a shame the following films didn’t quite reach those heights, but none of that is Pierce’s fault at all. He’s always shined despite the flaws of the later films imo.

    Agreed, and much that Daylights is possibly my favourite Bond, I think it would have been a bigger hit with Brosnan.

    I'm not sure, it'd have been interesting to see Brosnan as 006, and Sean Bean as 007. Perhaps beeing the baddie would've been more fun for Brosnan.

    Well, no Bond actor is perfect, not even Roger Moore (actually Grace Jones disagreed with him because of his support for the apartheid regime in Africa, and of course he also had his shares of affairs).

    But again, as a Bond fan, I'm not trying to involve myself with these, I'm not judgemental as a person, I liked them all as Bond (and as actors in general), whatever are there in their lives outside of Bond, I better not to get involved.
    The same could be said for Cary Fukunaga and his sexual abuse allegations, the same for Terrence Young's? Not until those are proven, but still even then, I still appreciate what they've done to the Franchise, and again, I'm not in the right place to judge those men.
    I've never heard about that.

    And again, are they proven? And again, those doesn't affect my enjoyment of them as Bond.

    It’s worth that I’m not sure that’s fully correct. Moore in all likelihood disagreed with apartheid at least in private, but he did shoot three films during the regime there in South Africa during the 70s which garnered him criticism (which is valid and quite hypocritical in many respects, but it wasn’t uncommon and is a distinction worth making). I’m actually not sure about his affairs (it’s not uncommon for stars, and in all likelihood is the case, but I just don’t know in Moore’s case one way or the other). We do, however, know he actually suffered domestic abuse by two of his ex wives.

    I’ve actually never heard about Jones disliking Moore for those reasons. The story I’ve heard is Moore threw a chair at a wall after she played music too loud in the room next to him while he was trying to sleep. She in turn brought a large black dildo to bed during May-Day/Bond’s love scene. Not that any of this makes Moore look good, and yes, it really isn’t worth it idolising actors themselves beyond their performances. So yes, no Bond actor, or indeed any actor, is perfect.

    Indeed; this thread and the others like it is here to talk about the actors in question, not to mindlessly praise them. Anyone who doesn't care about aspects of their lives/careers etc. will find these aren't the threads for them.

    Although I wonder what would happen if I just casualy said, in the Daniel Craig appreciation thread, that I’ve always found Daniel Craig to be one of the dumbest actors around. Or not one of the smartest, if we’re being picky. (Which, full disclosure, is not the case).

    I’ve autoanalised that I was very protective of Mr. Brosnan, since I am a enormous fan of his, and I lashed a bit to harshly at a criticism in his appreciation thread. To that I can admit.

    You see, the man’s brilliant. I love him to bits as an actor. He’s been a major part of my identification process growing up, and I feel sad to read fans criticism towards him, when he has given us so much. He’s such a good sport and a gentleman. And he deserves our support for many reasons, yes personal reasons as well, since he’s had his fair share of loss and grief (although I still maintain that these personal issues have no place here).

    If we could, please, celebrate him, as he deserves, I’d be a happy forum goer.

    That being said. Anyone know of any future projects of his?

    Amen. I read so many rules of conduct over the past two pages that I was about to take notes.
