Octopussy – 40th Anniversary: Expanded/Remastered Limited Edition (2 CD set)

I know there's been some discussion about this on the 'Lost But Now Found' thread, but I thought it was worthy of its own post. We can use this to discuss the album, when it starts shipping in a few weeks' time. Here's a re-cap of what to expect:
I am SO excited about this release, mostly because I really didn't see it coming. I had money on La-La Land Records releasing another David Arnold score or possibly 'Licence To Kill', given the complete list of cues on Michael Kamen's new website and the emergence of unreleased music. It's hard to believe that it's been twenty years since we've had an expanded John Barry soundtrack.
The release looks pretty complete (as per my notes here), I think the only music missing is the casino source, which according to engineer Neil Bulk wasn't on the tapes they were provided with. It could potentially be library music cleared for the film, but it does sound like a Barry arrangement to my ears! I'm impressed that we have additional source music like Vijay playing the Bond theme.
I've uploaded the samples from the album here, including a rip of 'Follow That Car', which soundtracked the video announcing the release: https://mega.nz/folder/icNRFQzS#nkbk1z40TFogt4FPlLLgIg . I've been playing these repeatedly since Christmas; I'm particularly excited to hear the climactic cue when Bond disarms the bomb at the circus, as well as the music that accompanies Kamal Khan's demise.
You may have heard that the manufacturing of the CDs has been delayed, so the albums won't start shipping until 30th January, and that's only if you've ordered direct from the LLLR website. However, we've waited this long...I'm sure that a few more weeks won't kill us :D
I would encourage as many fans of Bond music to purchase this release, as the more interest there is, the more likely we'll get releases in the future.

Produced by Neil S. Bulk and mastered by Doug Schwartz, Disc One of this deluxe release showcases the film’s Score Presentation and additional music, while a remaster of the original 1983 soundtrack album is housed on Disc Two, along with the CD premiere of the “Extended Instrumental Version” of “All Time High”! The film score on Disc One was sourced from ¼ inch stereo tapes of the film mixes, while Disc Two’s original 1983 soundtrack and the “Extended Instrumental Version” of “All Time High” are from ¼ inch stereo album masters. All of the tapes were newly transferred in high resolution for this set.
This special release is limited to 5000 units and features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by “The Music of James Bond” author Jon Burlingame and sharp art design by Dan Goldwasser.

If you're correct in saying that the casino source music could be library music, perhaps one day this can be tracked down for a full complete set!
Not yet, although I ordered it separately to OP so I would imagine it will arrive first.

Gun Barrel and Airbase: Goodbye to my gunshot-free, but low quality rip of this cue.
Fill Her Up: Love the music when the horse riders notice the jet above them.
Kremlin Art Repository and Sotheby's: I love the faux Russian anthem and the exotic sounding theme outside Sotheby's.
India
Easy Come, Easy Go: I especially love the end ("it certainly pays to advertise").
Checkpoint Charlie: Great cue, dramatic, dutiful and yet not without a light touch, courtesy of the woodwinds.
Follow That Car
The Bomb Arrives and Clowning Around: I love the climax of the bomb defusing cue. I made a MIDI of it that I shared a while back (and now I felt like listening to it again).
The Palace Fight (Extended Version): I love the insert of the Bond Theme that plays when the balloon appears, and which has been restored in this album. I actually recreated it last year by combining editing and some virtual instruments. Listening to the audio sample, one can tell that for the film, two bars of the track were cut.
Vijay's Pungi: Oh yeah!
Gangaur Ghat: Because I don't know what the hell this is (if you know, please don't tell me).
Let The Sport Commence: The jungle chase has library music, so I'm not sure what this is (if you know, please don't tell me).
The Hunt Continues: Same as above.
For me, Bond at the Monsoon Palace is the greatest track on the score, but I'm more than happy to have more. It's a much more varied and interesting soundtrack than AVTAK, much though I enjoy those tunes. Looking forward to this arriving very much, and crossing my fingers for some more this year (hopefully a 45th anniversary release...)
But MR would indeed be a must, so many great cues that weren't included in any pressing thus far.
I'm a little disappointed FRWL didn't get the 60th anniversary treatment, if only for the inclusion of the gunbarrel and that great cue when Grant shadows an unsuspecting Bond from aboard the train.
TMWTGG is also a soundtrack which I love that deserves some TLC. Not sure if it's popular or beloved enough to warrant La-La Records' attention.
Goldfinger is a different story. I can't imagine it not getting a 60th anniversary release this year that will include some of my favorite cues, some of which the very talented @mattjoes lovingly and expertly reproduced for us some time ago.
Yeah, I agree. I enjoy it, but it's not really massively varied, and I pretty much get the gist of it from the 2003 version!
Yes indeed, plus in better quality hopefully. I think it's got to be the most requested 007 score from LLL, especially after the false start in '19.
I see there's talk that there's nothing else surviving from Goldfinger to release- is that right?
Nice to know I'm not alone on preferring OP's soundtrack to AVTAK, which seems to have more than its share of fans it seems, which aside from the title track and instrumental version, doesn't offer much for me. The action theme with its military-like march mashed-up with rock guitar just doesn't work for me and is my overall least favorite Barry Bond soundtrack.
Barry does a great job on OP featuring the Indian influence on several tracks and just has a more varied feel overall.
If anyone ever asks why don't you labels let us customers know what you have coming out in advance you can forever point to Octopussy and the debacle we are currently in.
When both projects were finally approved for manufacturing last Fall we thought hey, wouldn't it be cool to do a special Xmas announcement AFTER the Black Friday madness on 2 titles that will be in stock and ready to ship first part of January? What we didn't expect is that in the one week between LALD being approved and Octopussy UMG changed their internal process for manufacturing for 3rd parties like us. The holidays hit, people were on vacation, so when they got back and started catching up on things it was discovered that Octopussy was never put through their internal process. Literally a jaw dropping wtf moment for us. So here we are Feb 3 still waiting on the final product to be delivered. To expedite matters we have asked umg to deliver the cds on spindles and get them to us asap so we can personally drive them down to our manufacture and have them packed up, and given back to us to start sending out.
If UMG kept to their word, the spindles shipped out on Friday and we should have them some time this week. If all goes well we will have final product shortly before Valentine's Day. We will START shipping out then. We will be the only place on the planet that will have this product. All other vendors will have to wait until the 2nd and 3rd batches come in which will most likely be late March
In the meantime, those Scarface LPs should be arriving in late February so we will be sending those out then.
TREK TOS VOL 4 arrives mid February
We had to delay some projects now because of this debacle and hope to be back on track with everything in MARCH

At Min 45. they start to talk about Bond
Interestingly there must have been a massive surge of orders as soon as the news broke on Christmas Eve. I ordered both albums a couple of hours later and haven’t had the notification to say they’ve been shipped. It bodes well that there’s such high demand for them. I believe all 2000 copies of the initial run have sold out now. Hopefully this opens the door to further expansions, given the demand 🤞🏻
I expect TMWTGG later this year and AVTAK next year. That Fanfare-Cue of AVTAK, can't wait to hear that, it's also Neil S. Bulk Favorite Track of AVTAK as he said in the podcast
I've only heard of one person receive their copy of OP. It was someone on FSM forums. Otherwise, all radio silence and I'm still waiting for mine.
Yes, hopefully we get the real score (an not the re-score most of the tracks on the original album) of TSWLM, maybe for the 50th anniversary
