Good question, @Feyador. Perhaps she took her life as self-punishment for playing Bond all that time, while actually in love with him. Perhaps she felt cornered by the conundrum she was in: Bond vs Yussef.

My real guess is the frightening and intimidating power of whoever Mr White and Gettler are working for. Knowing she'd never escape them, knowing the British would hunt her down because of her betrayal too, knowing Bond would by now have lost his trust in her, knowing that if Bond stayed on her side he would always have to fight to keep her safe (and he had already come close to dying), knowing Yussef's safety would forever be used to pressure her, and so on, she probably chose the peace of death over a life of stress, running, regret, and guilt. But that's just my thought.

@DarthDimi Excellent, thank you. The way she indicates love and then recoils in horror at the end .... It seems appropriate somehow, and quite believable, that it would be a mix of reasons that remain completely her own and ultimately unknowable to us with any certainty.

I have a question. This is one of the most stupid things I've seen in any Bond movies, but maybe there's a deeper meaning to this: In LALD the cards of Solitaire all have '007' on the front from the start, even before Bond gets to New York. Bond even comments this when he first meets her.

    I mean.... wtf?

Extra-textual cheekiness ... a nod and a wink to the audience ... the movie foregrounding its own artifice?

A traditional theatrical device in which the audience is invited to share in the wonderful ridiculousness of it all ... as at the conclusion with Baron Samedi on the train. Just a bit of fun and definitely not meant to be taken seriously ....

After the Craig years it may sometimes be hard to remember fun. I'm now as guilty as any, always looking for retrospective significance where there may be none or perhaps only creative confusion.

Bond hearing the JB-theme when arriving in India and saying "nice tune" is a nod.
I don't consider 007-cards as a main prop featuring in several scenes as a nod. Or a wink. Narratively it makes no sense, and is as silly as if the boommic suddenly appeared at the top of the frame.

One question about LTK : At one point, Bond disguises himself as a manta ray. Where did he get that manta ray suit ? Not from MI6, that's for sure. So ?

I believe the novelization of LTK by Gardner went into some detail regarding this. I believe the short hand was a black tarp with some poles. But its been a while since I read them. I enjoyed the novelizations of both LTK and GE that Gardner did.

Put it up there with 007 on the parade participants in TB. Though maybe the cards are more obvious. We could also throw in the mini camera in MR that has 007 on it.

The first few films make such a big deal of 007 and the need for secrecy. Grant saying that sweated the number out of someone. Goldfinger saying he got the intel from Bond's "opposite number also licence to kill" which I am assuming is a red agent?

Later in the series it's thrown around and everyone knows who double-o-7 is. Really no longer a secret agent. Even Drax saying "your reputation proceeds you."

Yeah, Solitaire, not ever having met Bond, must have been a fangirl visiting the local 007 gift shop :-)

To be honest, I haven't noticed the '007' logo in the back of such cards, some said it does really have, so, I've looked back and played it back again, and I've used the best 'Eagle Eyes' I could have, so I could spot it, I don't know, it may depends upon a perspective, because it's not really that obvious.

I would never have spotted it either unless pointed out to me, but look here ...

Bond literally says "Oh, and they even have my number on them" when he sees Solitaire with her cards. It doesn't get more obvious than that.

Drawing attention to them ... and [not] coincidentally selling them as merchandise in 1973? All extremely meta, as per the era ... or maybe just hoping to move them in the shops for Xmas.

No deeper meaning, unless a plant somehow to convince Solitaire that her love of Bond was 'written in the stars.'

But I'm just spitballing now ....

Another Moore era 007 on screen was the camera in MR. A different time.

Not sure if this is the place to ask an air-date related question so I wont ask the actual question out of courtesy, just for directions.
    Thanks.

Yes, you can certainly go ahead and ask your question here. This is a general Bond films questions thread.

Welcome aboard by the way, @JonasT. :)

I just finished Pearson's The Life of Ian Fleming and have this question:

Why was there never a dedication to Fleming in the Eon films? You'd think there'd be one in GF.

Yes, that was something of an oversight. My guess would be that such dedications weren't as much the norm in those days though I could be wrong about that of course. The first dedication I recall a Bond film ever having was for Derek Meddings in GoldenEye followed by Cubby Broccoli in Tomorrow Never Dies.

    Maybe considered superfluous?

His name was literally above the title in the early days, including in the credits of GF, and then for many years thereafter above the title in posters and advertising. It was literally "Ian Fleming's James Bond" and "Ian Fleming's [insert title] on almoat everything official in those days, I think.

Later, as the material strayed away from Fleming it might have made even less sense, except for CR, of course ...

    Just some ruminations ....

I’ll answer with, I think that depends on each individual fan.
Some like DAF, MR and DAD.
Some think they’re the worst of the series.
    I have a couple of questions @Mendes4Lyfe

    1. Are you not from England / UK?
    2. Why do you refer to NTTD as Bond 25?

Yeah, it's very subjective. But if it's any consolation I really don't think there have been truly any 'bad' Bond films. There are some I don't find reach their full potential or have technical/creative flaws, but if the Bond series had had any truly 'bad' films (and by this I mean a creative, critical, and to a lesser extent financial disaster on the level of Batman and Robin) then I don't think the films would be in the place they are today... that's to say still being made.

Opinion time. Which of the two actors that played Mr. Jones gave the better performance?

    Reggie Carter
    reggie-carter-mr-jones-dr-no.jpg

    Rolf Saxon
    philip-jones-foto.jpg

I liked Saxon, but I thought the character's reboot was too radical. Going from a Jamaican driver to an American executive of a media company? They should have added some backstory there or changed the character. Also, they never explained how he survived the cyanide in the first place.

Mr Jones simply faked his own death by mixing Mentos with a shot of Coca Cola, hence the foaming at the mouth.

It's still crazy to me that the time from Casino Royale 2006 to Bond 25 is the same as Dr No to The Spy Who Loved Me.

Because I don't count Casino Royale 67 or Never Say Never Again as "official", since they weren't produced by EON productions. If you include them, maybe it's bond 27?

A question that's bothered me since 2021: If Bond was sprayed by the Heracles nanobots at the Spectre party in Cuba, why would Bond grabbing Madeleine's wrist have made any difference as far as causing Blofeld's death? It's established that once you got the nanobots, you can't get them off.

Something to do with the nanobots being reprogrammed under Safin's orders to kill the individual SPECTRE members at the party, not Bond. Remember, it's not a contagion but a DNA targeted weapon.

Yes, and that specific spray was created to target Blofeld's DNA in particular just as each member of SPECTRE needed their own specific nanobots spray based on their own DNA.
