I’ll believe any type of news when it’s actually reported by EON or other official sources. Until then I’m personally done listening to scoopers trying to gain a few clicks for their articles.

Voila. If it's not EON reporting it, I'm not buying it. I'll happily risk not giving some hypothetical YouTuber the credit he's due. Too many rumours have plagued us before; too much empty speculation has bothered us before.
When did EON first officially state that Sam Mendes was working on Skyfall ("Bond 23" back then)? Certainly not back in January 2010, when Deadline.com first reported it. My point is that some sites (Deadline, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter) are nearly as credible as official announcements.

Then there are sources that are not quite as credible as those sites but still are very much worth paying attention to, and it's fun speculating about credible rumours posted by those sources. Wasn't it fun talking about Daniel Craig possibly becoming Bond, which we could do for half a year before the official announcement, thanks to rumours?

Yes, and those instances you mentioned take us back to 19 and 14 years ago. The rumour machine was bad then but it is even worse now. Obviously, some rumours turn out to be true. All I'm saying is that before I actually believe it and start discussing it as a hard fact, I'll patiently await an official statement, that's all. There's just too much nonsense floating around on YouTube, TikTok, and other channels.

One could even say that these press titles replace official press releases. Eon works in a particular way with its press conferences and contrasts with the rest of the Hollywood studios which do not communicate in this way. Who announced that Julia Garner joined The Fantastic Four? Deadline. Has there been any official announcement from Marvel Studios on this subject since then? No, because the Deadline article served as a de facto press release. If I'm not mistaken, these trades announced that Matt Shakman would direct The Fantastic Four without Marvel Studios ever commenting on this info; quite simply because, once again, these articles served as a de facto announcement.

All this to say that it is not because the information does not come from the studio that it should be seen as a rumor, quite the contrary. These sites serve serve as communication channels and often replace press releases.

Agreed. But the problem is that it is almost impossible to separate false rumours from facts when the news is still fresh. That's why I will stick to official announcements, simply because then we can skip the game of "is this true or not?"

Rumour or not, we are going to know who the new Bond is before EON announces him.

You're right, but wouldn't it be brilliant if EON just announced the next Bond before we got rumours about them. Imagine them recreating Pierce's "where you expecting someone else" video and posted it on all the 007 media.

That said I'd probably miss the constant rumours 😅

I suspect the name of the actual actor will be brought up more closer to the time regardless (this was the case with Craig). Not sure whether it’ll be leaked or anything like that one way or the other.

Inspite of all the delays and negativity around bond lately, whenever I'm reminded of the fact that in the near future we're going to have a new actor announced in the role I'm instantly filled with excitement. There aren't many things that can match that in the entertainment business anymore. I don't watch Dr Who, but I would imagine the excitement of getting a new doctor has been watered down by now, since it happens about as often as the UK swaps out prime ministers these days. But a new Bond still only happens once in a blue moon, its still that special rare event that people, at least older people stand still and take note of. To put it into perspective, a 50 year old today has only witnessed the casting of 3 Bond actors in their lifetime, that's bonkers when you think about it. 50 YEARS and it only happened 3 times. And with how much social media has changed the landscape since 2005, imagine the splash it will make in today's world when it happens. Its going to be something we will all remember for a long time.

Yeah, I think the casting will create a good amount of buzz. Even off these forums I noticed the reaction to the ATJ rumours got a lot of people interested.

Still waiting for this BIG Bond scoop!
  • edited May 13 Posts: 4,273
I might be missing something. I presume whatever this guy is going to reveal (whoever he is - never heard of him personally) is, for all we know, just a general movie/Hollywood scoop and hasn’t been specifically said to be about Bond?

So I presume it could pretty much be about anything?

Edit: ah, to be fair just clocked the licence to post bit (me not paying attention there/speed reading posts, haha). Ah well, who knows… like I said before though nothing’s official with Bond until EoN announce it. If we do get anything it may well not be a big rumour such as a potential Bond or director definitely going to sign on, but a much more minor rumour which may not turn out to come to fruition (ie. a director or whatever supposedly being considered by EON, rumblings of a potential official pre production or filming date, again which might not be the case. Something like that. But I could be wrong as always).

I think the problem is you might well use the word licence in that sentence if it wasn't about Bond. It might be intentional, it might not.
Fingers crossed it is of course, always fun to have a tidbit to chew over whether it's made up or not.

If we don’t get something Bond related from him, you’re in big trouble @Colonel_Venus. YOUR license to post will be revoked;). I’m just teasing you. Either way, thanks for letting us know about his post. Remember he’s based in LA. So it maybe a while before he says anything.

Relax, guys! The great Jeff Sneider is based in Los Angeles. It's only 6:40 am there. Don't expect anything for another 12 hours or so. (In other words, if you are in Europe, you won't see Sneider's Scoop until when you wake up on Tuesday morning.)

My sources tell me Jeff Sneider has been cast as James Bond. The next Bond film will be directed by Christopher Nolan and co-star Monday.

Music by Yann Demange, for some reason

Indeed. With ATJ to star as the Bond girl.

If he’s breaking news of any kind it’ll be at top of the day, 9 or 10 LA time (especially if he’s sitting on something juicy, that others may now be trying to figure out, he won’t want to wait until 6pm his time).

The way the tweet was phrased makes it obvious what he was really after was a dialogue with the studio.

Yes. Sounded more like a threat (if you don’t speak to me about the rumour I heard, I’ll post it by Monday)…)

I’d be very surprised if this is weighty news, whatever it is.

I’d love for something to nibble on, as much as anyone else.

    I just think this may be a Nothing-Burger. Hope I’m wrong, but… 🤷‍♂️…

To play Devil’s advocate, while this is an announcement, I don’t think it was the one teased the other day
