Problem is that shouldn't be a question. IFP cruely lack of transparancy in what thay announces. It's always vagues or incomplet.
Precises the version of text (while its been month they read dozen of comment on the subject at each of their announcements post in social media)? No.
Details with precision the bonus content of their book, No, just settle with an obscure "specially-selected archival material" that nobody can interpret. (Same can be say for the updateted edition of the last Higson coronation book).
What are they hoping? That people would had no other choice to blindly buy, hoping to not be dissapointed, to discover themself the thing that should had been announced in transparacy and that would have motivied or nor their buy?
At least I should howewer give them a good point to be spare of theses useless dust jacket for once. Sicks of theses flying paper that are not a real cover, fragile, could be easy lost forever, looks cheap and cause the real cover to be an hideous monochrome.
I'm guessing IFP's silence on this question means it's using the redacted texts. It doesn't want to announce that because of the outcry from last time, and if these were the original texts it would have used that information as a selling point. But I am quite curious about the "archival material," which is the only reason I'd consider buying these.
Well, I see you're point but this is James Bond you're talking about. Fleming was writing this books for a male, primarily British audience. I'm not a big playboy fan, but Bond and Playboy go way back, and the naked silhouettes are a hallmark of the film series.
Yes, that version of CR looks lovely. And it won't be edited, as IFP has confirmed it wasn't. I'm more curious what the announcement will be next Tuesday. Probably signed or limited editions of them. Although, it could be a few things:
A title reveal for Kim Sherwood’s third Double 00 book.
More details on the Q Mysteries.
Another Spinoff?
Hopefully though as @Double-OhAgent said a new JAMES BOND novel. Hopefully set in modern day.
I’m hoping for one (or honestly all of these). Of course it depends on the spinoff character of choice.
Must admit I’ve gone for that CR. I just think it looks a lovely thing.
The imagery in some of them aren't necessarily what I'd pick, or made in a way I think works perfectly, but there are definitely some good ones here. Live and Let Die, Dr. No, Goldfinger and On Her Majesty's Secret Service are probably my favourites, and I really like the details posted above of the Casino Royale one.
I might be tempted to pick up a few of these, although the entire set might be a bit too expensive for me.
I guess there could be a boxset of all of them coming on Tuesday maybe.
I guess I should post the whole lot of them as no-one's done that yet!
Yes, I was thinking that. Hopefully they are all the unaltered texts though, especially as they're hardbacks and thus more collectable. People understandably want the Real McCoy for a set like this. I think it's only right.
Indeed. There's so much more that goes into the overall look and feel of a book than just the front cover.
I read that Casino Royale has unaltered text, but does this apply to the whole series?
Yes, that's what I'm wondering now myself. I hope they are all the original text versions.
I love the artwork and the whole vibe of these new editions. I'm seriously thinking of getting the lot if they're true to the original text, so if anyone has any definite info on this, I'd be very grateful.
I'd be surprised if Live and Let Die, for example, featured the original UK text and chapter titles. I just can't see them doing it. I'd applaud them if they did.
**INTERNAL MEMO - OFFICE SUPPLIES**
I wanted to send this message on Friday 13th but it’s unlucky, so I didn’t.
Certain of my Double O agents have asked for a special edition of the upcoming Casino Royale hardback. Ian Fleming Publications have thus created a limited run that look dipped in silver. But it doesn’t seem fair to keep this just to James and the gang, so they’ve printed a few more that are now up for grabs. No need to thank me, just keep them nice.

Also, note for caterers: James says we need better coffee.

Here's an image of it:
I should have waited to order it I guess! But never mind, can't be bothered cancelling now :D
No self-respecting collector is going to buy editions that have been edited 60 years after the real Mccoy that Author Ian Fleming didn't approve of.
I wouldn't question anyone's integrity who did want censored versions, but for my own part, if I'm shelling out for a Fleming Bond book, I want the original text as far as possible.
I've ordered the collectors' edition of Casino this afternoon. I'll wait and see about the rest. I'd love them, I think they're beautiful, but if they're censored I'll leave it.
Obviously I have the original text of the novels many times in various versions, (from some original Capes to the splendid Folios), it's not the text Itself I'd be missing. But if I bought a modern cleaned up version of a Fleming text, it'd be like condoning censorship in literature. Simple as that.
Yes, don't teach the irresponsible to be more irresponsible. There are other ways that IFP should be trying to keep the fans happy. Also, from another Bond site:
That’s even less interesting or “special” than I thought it would be.
I just don’t understand it. I love Ian Fleming’s works as much as any James Bond fan–and even have multiple editions of the series–but exactly how many various editions does IFP expect people to own? It seems like every other year we’ve got a new Fleming collection (at various pricing) produced for fans to buy. There’s only so much cash, much less shelf space, for people to have.
On the other hand, IFP hasn’t done much, if anything, for the continuation novels which, I suppose, is somewhat understandable. But what is more puzzling is not hiring a new continuation author for more JAMES BOND novels starring everyone’s favorite secret agent James Bond 007. Granted, since 2002, we’ve had nine Young Bond novels and one short story (which, admittedly, were very entertaining and well done) and three The Moneypenny Diaries novels and two short stories. But in that same time frame, we’ve only gotten six adult Bond adventures and one novelette. So that’s SEVEN adult Bond stories in the last 17 years! That’s basically half the Young Bond/Moneypenny Diaries output! Not exactly what I’d call, pumping them out–or giving the people what they want.
I feel similar to their points of view.
But they do make a good point that there's been a lot of 'Bondverse' books compared to actual Bond books. I'd also like to see a new, full-blooded adventure featuring James Bond himself, rather than young Bond at school, Miss Moneypenny adventures, Q adventures, or the new gang of diversity agents looking for a missing Bond.
*The Folio editions are not yet a complete collection. Lots of us are waiting for Octopussy and the the Living Daylights.
