They're doing reshoots then; they shot the majority of those scenes a long time ago.

When will they ever finish making this movie. They started making these two before Covid: it's been that long.

Cruise & McQuarrie are too busy living the high life in London, attending Wimbledon, Taylor Swift tours, Twisters premieres etc... :D

Re watched all the films this week, Tom Cruise is the greatest action star of all time.

Dead Reckoning is in the conversation for top 3, my current top 2 is M:I 1 and M:I 6.

I didn't realise MI:8 is releasing in May next year, we should get a teaser in the next month or 2.

Also I always thought this would be the conclusion to the story but apparently Cruise wants to keep going. As long as they can maintain the quality, this is very good news!

Great news I would be happy to see Tom continue well into his 70's, he looks after himself.

I'm guessing it's not confirmed that he'll keep on doing it? I dunno, I really don't know where this franchise can go after the next one, and I'm not sure how long Tom Cruise can keep leaping off of buildings into his 70s. I'm still of the opinion it'll be tricky making the next one a big success as well (not to say it'll flop or underperform like the last one, but I'm just not sure how high its ceiling goes after a point. The audience just isn't there and the fanbase it does have is a bit too soft).

Simon Pegg has teased the first trailer for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8, which will be attached to a large theatrical release that will most likely be next month's Gladiator 2.

This is very interesting information. Thank you. I will be waiting.

I just felt I should get up to date with this thread. Looking at my collection (and I needed that look to even be sure), I seem to have the first five M:I films (not counting the 1960s' TV series). I watched the first one twice, though I hate what they did to the Jim Phelps character, and besides that I only remember much of it took place in Prague and some aquarium burst. The others, only once...and so far never felt an urge to do something about it, in times where I don't seem to find time to watch any more tantalizing disc newly purchased. I couldn't for the life of me recall the storylines of any of them. I'll wait and see how this develops (like feeling the urge to suddenly see any of them again), but no, I don't really care how that franchise continues. And except for A Few Good Men, I still find Cruise a lousy actor.

Not a major Tom Cruise fan either. I did like him in Michael Manns 'Collateral', but yeh, the Mission Impossible movies are forgettable fare, the most recent two I found quite tedious! The almost universal raving about Top Gun 2 I found baffling, didn't impress me at all that film!

I was just thinking there is a real possibility we may get 3 Mission Impossible films in between NTTD and the next Bond film. if Tom is indeed continuing i would assume he wont went to waste too much time on a part 9.

He and McQuarrie have mentioned they want to continue the story and this won't be the last, but Cruise is set up to do Inarritu's next film in 2025, followed by another, new film with McQuarrie afterward. If they actually do a ninth at this rate, I'll be surprised.

Interesting maybe a 9th film is a misdirect from Ethan's fate in part 8?

Except Top Gun 3, other movies with Tom Cruise ging to be made by Warner. We already waiting very long on The Edge Of Tomorrow 2.

Mission Impossible franchise wil remain with Paramount too, i can imagine atleast he wil stay as producer. New directer and waiting 5 years til Mi9 wil be good idea.

I haven’t seen the original TV show, but I’ve watched all the films up to the latest one. I absolutely loved the first movie, especially with Jon Voight as the villain. It had that distinct ‘90s vibe, with great cinematography and a wonderfully eerie atmosphere.

The second film is pure 2000s action cheese, with strange slow-motion shots sprinkled throughout. It’s still memorable and enjoyable, but definitely not on the same level as the first. The third one, with Philip Seymour Hoffman, was the high point of the series for me. It had a darker tone, a more personal story, and an outstanding cast. Hoffman was hands down the best villain in the series—truly scary and unsettling.

Ghost Protocol was another solid entry, blending the darker elements with fun action sequences. My favorite scene was when they were in Russia and the Kremlin explodes. Rogue Nation was enjoyable too, though I don’t remember much of the plot. The opera scene, however, really stood out.

As for Fallout and Dead Reckoning Part One, I found them both underwhelming. I haven’t revisited them since my first viewing, but I might give them another chance. I actually fell asleep during Dead Reckoning Part One, so that says a lot about how I felt at the time.

I can't imagine McQuarrie directing another though, or possibly even being involved at all. He's been making 7 & 8 non-stop for at least the last four and a half years, he must be at the limit by now, like a sort of Heart of Darkness situation.

Your summary sounds a lot like mine, especially on the last 2. I recall all the praise Fallout got and just wasn't as taken with it. I found some things predictable about it, especially the ending. Some of Dead Reckoning I'd felt I'd seen in Bond movies.

As far as your mentioning the plots, they mean little as all anybody remembers of the MI are the action scenes. Besides, they all seem to have traitors in them, so there's that too.

I love them, but aside from the traitor angle (quite a lot of the films have baddies who are IMF agents) I think the biggest recurring plot point is there’s something very dangerous which shouldn’t be out in the open, but Ethan has to let it out (often by stealing it) in order to draw the baddie out so he can catch him. I think that happens in each film.

The first trailer for Paramount Pictures’ eighth “Mission: Impossible” film appears to be set to debut online on Monday November 11th reports DanielRPK (via WoR).

The trailer arrives just two days before Paramount’s “Gladiator II” begins its international rollout on November 13th in France and South Korea before opening around much of the world on November 14th & 15th.

That film then arrives in North America and China on the 22nd. Copies of the ‘Mission’ teaser are expected to be attached to “Gladiator II” around much of the globe.

With the trailer will come the new title, replacing the originally planned ‘Dead Reckoning Part Two,’ for the film that will open six months after the trailer launch.

Filming on the project wrapped early October after two-and-a-half years in production. A report earlier this year suggested the film was already “running well over $300 million in production costs”.

The previous film reportedly lost Paramount a small fortune due to a COVID-impacted blown-out budget and a smaller-than-expected box-office gross.

The film is currently on track for a planned May 23rd 2025 release.

(I just noticed I wrote almost exactly the same stuff not so long ago...on Oct. 18. So I refer everyone to that posting rather than essentially repeating it here, and therefore deleted what I wrote a couple of minutes ago.)

I don't see how Tom could have time to film another mission movie until 2035 with all his other projects going on. Maybe if it makes $1b then they'll consider moving it up the totem pole.

I finally got around and watched Dead Reckoning. Enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Fallout but not as much as GP or RN

This film has been in production for so long; I can't wait to see a bit of what they've done.

So the title is Mission Impossible the final reckoning

Sounds like Ethan may die at the end with that title
