I think that Barry's importance to the James Bond phenomenon cannot be understated. He's up there with Connery IMHO.

Barry was at his peak with YOLT-OHMSS-DAF. I can't name a composer who did three better, and quite different, scores than these.

I guess, for the sake of argument, Space March and 007 And Counting aren't wildly different ;)

I finally decided to try the la la land special editions. I didn't bother with the David Arnold releases because aside from TND I'm not a huge fan of his music as a listening experience. And I missed out on Moonraker through my own procrastination. It's now sold out on 007 store. So I decided to try Live and Let die. And it's ok. While it's great to listen to the score in film order there really isn't anything that's not on the 2003 remaster. Was it worth £39? Probably not to be honest. However I've already pre-ordered LTK because if any Bond score needed a better edition it's that film. I think I'd only buy another la la land pressings if there is a significant addition to the existing remasters

I did the same with the Arnold releases but I did catch the DAD release for a good price new recently and will eventually get the TND, but the TWINE I'm not concerned about unless I can get it for a good price. Some of the others are a different case.

I like that they present the scores in order of appearance in the film and adding the original soundtrack and that's what's helped these become must-buys for me. I even got the updated Goldfinger soundtrack. So I don't mind paying for these as they are among the more worthy collectibles for me.

I find it a bit awkward that a thread celebrating the release of a LTK score talks more about films that aren't LTK.

ahead of my ltk copy arriving i thought i'd look at the source cues found in the film using imdb to begin with so we have alongside 'wedding party','dirty love' and of course the main and end title songs present on original and new la la land release, there is out there 'mexican waltz#1' by tony tape,'andantino for organ' by dick walter ,'star prizes (a) 'by tony kinsey.the last two feature along with 'game show by ray davies (not the 'kinks'one the' button down brass' fella) the only release i can find for this track was on a 1986 vinyl lp called "wide angle on the small screen" on the JW music library no.JW 524 where it exists as tk 2 side A. maybe my detective work means one of you guys out there possibly has said album? anyway think i'll respin tmwtgg while i wait for LTK.

Now that I have LLL's expanded scores for OP, MR, and LTK, I suppose I should just snag TMWTGG and GF to complete my LLL Bond collection.

The title song starts in an unexpected way, has that always been there?

The Tracks "Tanker Downhill" & Truck Chase and Ocean Exotica Break-In & "You Earned it" fade into each other, can someone mixing together as one track?

    1. Tanker Downhill" & Truck Chase
    2. Ocean Exotica Break-In & "You Earned it

That would be awesome, thank you

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but LTK 35th expanded soundtrack was announced 15th of January 2025 and available from the 21st of January. I'm not great at maths but surely 1989 to January 2025 is 36 years not 35. It should have been listed as the 36th year anniversary! 🤭 Kinda big goof.

To give La-La Land Records the benefit of the doubt, it's possible the release date was intended for 2024 but was delayed until 2025?

Same thing happened to OCTOPUSSY coming out in January 2024, just a month after its proper 40th anniversary date.

Thanks for that information. Ideally LTK soundtrack could have been released in summer 2024 to coincide with the summer 89 release of LTK. That would have made it the 35th anniversary. It's not a big deal though. I was just wondering "I'm sure 2024 is the 35th anniversary so why it is released in 2025?" ;)) I didn't even think about it until a day or so ago!

    No need to split hairs.

Anyway I had a good laugh listening to one trashy song.

    “DIRRRTY LOVE!”

Perfect song for that bar scene.

Track 6 is the 7" edit of the title song and the version played on radio stations at the time. It doesn't actually match the version played in the opening titles of the movie - I'm working on an edit of that and will share in the 'Lost but now found' thread when it's ready. The extended version is more familiar as it's on the original OST and on all the Bond theme song compilation albums.

A few people have raised this on another forum and producer Neil Bulk simply said, "The cues are edited together as heard in the film." It's a bit like on the TWINE soundtrack where 'Show Me The Money' and 'Come In 007, Your Time Is Up' follow seamlessly from one another.

Licence To Kill was originally intended to be a Black Friday release, announced in November last year, but it was held back. You could technically argue that this release is still in the movie's 35th year (LTK was released in June '89 so it's 35 until June '25!).

Yes, thanks for the clarification. I'm guessing Octopussy was intended to be released in 2023 but put back to early 2024.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if The Spy Who Loved Me expanded edition - if planned for release - is before 2027 or early 2028! LLLR could forgo the 'anniversary' title and release it before those dates.

I haven't done a proper deep dive on the album yet, but it's sounding great so far. Has anyone noticed that the wedding march (Wagner) into the main title doesn't match the version heard in the film? The start of the cue is missing and I'm sure it's a different organ patch (possibly with more reverb)?

I almost got a bit of false hope. In the third track we get what Kamen originally composed for that cheesy slow mo hero shot of David Hedison Leiter charging. Because the movie heavily reused cues, that gave me the impression we would get a lot more of these original cues that were discarded in favor of reusing. Nope. Most of the score is as it is in the movie, so that was mildly disappointing. But now I at least know they definitely spliced in that bit of “Seaplane Escape” into the bit with Leiter charging.

Only halfway through the soundtrack so far, but I noticed that "Bond Aboard" seems to deviate from what we hear in the film from around the 2 minute mark.

I'm also enjoying hearing parts of tracks I never even noticed before because of how they were mixed in the film, like "Ocean Exotica Break-In", with the rain-stick (?) simulating the maggots (?!), or that nice piano on "Enter Lupe". Michael Kamen definitely had an eclectic way of blending instrumentation to create some unusual textures.

It's not Bond-related, but one of the best things Kamen ever did was to arrange for a full orchestra some pop, folk and rock songs for a 1994 series of concerts in Japan called the Great Music Experience, just for Bob Dylan's set. Dylan had never played with an orchestra, and at the time he could be extremely loose, but here he had no choice but to commit to the rhythm and concentrate on his singing. This probably made for his best ever performance of A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall.

He was also at the helm of Metallica's first "S&M" concert, which I still keep in heavy rotation.

I haven't got my copy from la la yet, soon i hope i,think it's in french customs at the moment, but here's a wild thought we know from the kamen cue listing's there were two wedding march recordings for the scene the wagner one presented on album and film and the mendleson version might that version begin with the organ intro you describe and they did a mash up of the two for the film (assuming public domain copywrites would not be infringed).

Amazing! Just amazing! I'm really enjoying Kamen's LTK. As mentioned earlier, Kamen is truly in love with the Bond theme. It's almost like he was waiting to score a Bond film. Please, LLLR should give us TSWLM, AVTAK & GE this year. Then of course, keep releasing the rest of the Bond scores in the coming years.

anybody have any thoughts on why kamen's arrangement of "La Bamba"is'nt on the release?
