Not great news. Aside from the quality concerns, I guess the chances of a bombastic movie cinematic experience are now slim-to-none.

When I saw the title of this thread, at first, I thought if was some sort of "what if" discussion. And while I'm still processing this, my initial reaction is one of sorrow. Time will tell (of course), but this certainly marks the end of an era.

I see these news as nothing more than the logical culmination of the downhill trajectory this series has taken since the end of the Dalton era.
I’m perfectly content with revisiting my old favorites while waiting for future LLL soundtracks and 4K releases.
It’s been (mostly) fun while it lasted.

It's a point about how long B26 will be in cinemas for before it goes to streaming.

Frankly this ain't great news for cinema owners.

Quite shocking and very sad. We'll see what the future brings I guess.

My first reaction is to panic for the franchise, but knowing what we know about Barbara maybe there's contracts in place to keep it's integrity.

Maybe that previous article was intended to make a point to Amazon. It certainly proved a point to everyone else.

Well, at least let's look at the positive side.

Those who said that Craig and his movies were total s**t are going to have to eat their words.

But... Where does it leave Gregg Wilson? I always tough he was to succeed to his father in a similar position...

Wow—this is massive. EON has always operated in its own way, with a clear vision of what Bond should be. But now, with Amazon in charge, everything could change. They're driven by algorithms, not legacy, and that could completely reshape how the franchise works.

We might see a total shift in how directors are chosen, how scripts are developed, and even how the films are produced. Could Amazon move Bond away from Pinewood? Could we get a period piece? Maybe they move away from October/November releases? Will they control the series or hand the reins to a writer-director like James Gunn (Superman) or Matt Reeves (Batman), letting them build their own Bond universe with spin-offs? Even something as traditional as picking the title song artist might not follow the usual process. It’s the Wild West now.

Personally, I really hope they bring in a Christopher Nolan-type director and just let them craft their vision. That feels like the best way forward.

That said, it does make sense that Broccoli would bow out after No Time to Die. She loved the Craig era, and with that film literally killing off Bond, maybe she feels she’s done everything she set out to do with the character. Now, the future of 007 is in Amazon’s hands.

Gosh I hope so. I'd like to think that, with the joint venture holding the rights, there's some kind of joint approval required on what those rights are used for.

Thought I'd rise from the dead to mourn the end of the series (which for me, was always predicated on control by the Broccolis).

James Bond is dead, long live James Bond!

Yeah, I wanted Gregg to take the reigns, with Michael and Barbara still having a firm say in discussions regarding creative control. Seems that is all ... gone. Hope not, but we shall see how this shakes out.

In some ways this is the logical conclusion of Cubby and Harry's tensions starting with Thunderball.

The shock isn't perhaps that it's over, it's that somehow it lasted over 60 years.

Well, those who have been screaming for "Babs" and Michael to step down, have their wish. Likewise, those who crave more products, regardless of their quality, have their wish too.

Very apt that Bond died at the end of the last EON controlled Bond film

Shocking news for Bond fans. Hard to feel optimistic.

Not sure how relevant, but they did a good job with the Jack Reacher series..😏

    To paraphrase Bond...

Personally I found it tedious, but I know others enjoyed it so there is hope there. Everything else they've made with spies (Jack Ryan, Citadel etc.) has been pap though.

Do you think the people at IOI Interactive have learned the news at the same time of us and are panicking right now for what it is meaning fo their new game?

There’s pros, cons, and a whole lot of questions. The cons are obvious: spin-offs, over saturation and debatable, if not controversial, creative choices. The pros aren’t so obvious but they’re there: wider market reach with new consumer products like figures and affordable collectibles, quicker turn around time between movies and, maybe, things like theme park rides. The questions for me are whether the Broccoli’s secured a guarantee of theatrical releases from Amazon and how much input will the Broccolis contractual retain.

While I do think there’s plenty of space in which the franchise could expand, I hope that Amazon understands that the Bond films have worked for seven decades because they’re films and not mere product. Again, I look to Batman, as opposed to Star Wars or Star Trek or Marvel, as an example of how Bond can maintain the integrity of the films while expanding the brand.

Maybe. Even then it makes things like period piece Bond movies (which I don't think is a particularly good idea) or films that just don't quite work more likely.

I'm hoping a producer or lead can helm these films with a consistent creative vision and dedication to them, even if the franchise expands (even DC has James Gunn, and The Batman franchise Matt Reeves etc). But I just don't see anyone aside from EON who will do it at the current time. We'll see. The impression I get is that this is more likely to pan out as a Star Wars type thing, which is a bit depressing.

What also makes me sad is that Bond has just become entirely American-controlled.

Don’t look up Barbara Brocoli’s nationality.

    & Michael and Barbara

Where are Universal & Warner in this ?. Because earlier there was the news that Amazon whant to start there own release company. That worried me already, because get feeling that whant to eleminate Universal/Warner. If that was possible because those 2 studio's already have made deal for Bond 26, Bond 27 and Bond 28.

Before i was not realy worried about no cinema release, but more after that. That there don't release Bluray (4K) release of any more. Jack Ryan series is released, but Jack Reacher isn't.

I'm optimisitc. I can see Amazon producers producing more frequent films/TV, or whatever. However without the Broccoli family, would a new series omit traditions such as the gunbarrel, PTS, titles, music, etc? Will we have an entire era of NSNA style Bond films?
Will Amazon be as careful with casting as Barbara? Or could we possibly see an A lister like Keanu, Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise take on the role? Maybe a flavor of the month young actor?
I'd say anything is possible now.
