I understand directing films is hard going, especially if you're a bit older (and by older I mean that in relative terms - I don't think even 60 is old for a director, at least as an individual number). I think the only reason to retire is if the artist genuinely feels they've done what they needed to and want to start a new stage of their life beyond film (so someone like Daniel Day Lewis, although even he's come out of retirement based on the right project). Tarantino seems to have created this arbitrary goal based on the idea that he doesn't want to be making bad movies as an older man (and keep in mind plenty of older men have and continue to make great movies - Martin Scorsese is an example, and directors like Kurosawa made great films well into the later stages of their career. Hell, directors like Michael Haneke and Nicholas Roeg started their careers midway or even more into their cinematic careers starting in different departments, and even Alfred Hitchcock's masterpieces came into the mid/later stages of his directing career).

Yes, good thoughts. I respect what Tarantino is trying to say, but at the same time I would think someone as creative as him would find it hard not to be involved in this age of Netflix films, making there even more need for auteur-driven projects. Add in that an older, wiser Tarantino could have a different perspective with the wisdom he's gained over the years it would seem a missed opportunity if he didn't.

    Happy Birthday to Quentin Tarantino!

Take it with a pinch of salt.

My top 5 Books that I hope QT writes.

    1. Double V Vega (book or graphic novel).
    2. Kill Bill Vol. 3 (as a book, movie or video game, and as long as Uma Thurman is involved).
    3. The Films of Rick Dalton (book).
    4. Reservoir Dogs (novelization or stage play).
    5. Django in White Hell (book).

The man does have more projects than he realizes.

I wouldn't be surprised if QT fights for a theatrical release. I swear this is NOT an April Fool's joke.

This would be the first time in 30 years that we’ve seen a Tarantino penned script helmed by a different director, the last which was FROM DUSK TIL DAWN.

If he sticks to doing just ten films I’d at least be happy if he keeps writing scripts for other directors.

That's really exciting news. I loved Brad Pitt's performance in OUATIH. It'd be fantastic to see Cliff Booth again.

Yeah it sounds like a project which would be very popular. Just because it's Netflix doesn't mean it won't get a theatrical release.

I always thought Pitts character was more interesting than Dicaprios, and the story should have been more about him!

Pitt's character definitely had all the best scenes! Plenty to be explored about Cliff Booth!

I wonder if QT is going to pull a James Cameron, and keep the rest of his career in his OUATIH universe. I know that QT has his own connected universe, but he might be sticking to that era.

I recall reading that QT wanted to make: CR and a Star Trek film - specifically, using the Gangster show from TOS (of course; which else ?)....glad he did not. For one thing - they'd have been exceedingly violent. For another, at least one character would be a descendant of a character from Pulp Fiction, crammed into a Bond film and a Star Trek film. Additionally, someone would smoke Red Apple cigarettes in CR and use some futuristic version - space vape ? - in Star Trek, except that in the period-portion someone would smoke old fashioned Red Apples, maybe even roll their own. Additionally, he would have urged using existing songs rather than newly composed music, and would sometimes cut those songs off abruptly mid-song. I'm sure one could go on...

I would have been intrigued to see Tarantino’s Trek film. I think Trek as a film franchise is pointless because it’s better as a TV franchise, so having Tarantino do a one off film would have made such a film more unique.

Personally I think Trek is at its best as movies.

My issue is that the movies can never really try something different the way episodes can in terms of storytelling. An episode like “Data’s Day” where we only see things from the perspective of the title character wouldn’t work for a movie. The closest the movies deviated was with THE VOYAGE HOME being a light comedic film. Despite being at the time the highest grossing Trek film it’s curious they never thought to try something as different again.

For the movies with Chris Pine, I do wish they had adopted a Mission: Impossible formula where they bring in a new director to do their own take on the material. Bringing in Tarantino would have been in that vein. Brad Bird always seemed like an ideal Trek director.
