To be honest, I was just happy to see it back in its proper place. :)

I am too. Very much so. Still peeved at Mendes for not last time.

Ok the blurry Bond was neat but not worth loosing the GB.. it was Bond's 50th for crying out loud!!!

Lol I guess Bond thought since he was blurry no need for cover ...No one could see him.

Honestly...it was brillant ! To be honest with you, i'm not a big fan of the Craig Era. I liked Casino Royale but i don't really feel it like a James Bond Movie..more like a pre-James Bond, and i hated Skyfall. On the other hand, i loved Quantum Of Solace...Yeah i know it's weird lol and it's not what the most think about...
But damn...Spectre really rocks ! For me James Bond is definitely back again ! The one i love, smooth, with some humour, who gets girls and not depressive.
IMO, It's definitely the best Bond movie of Craig (for me the only one in which DC IS REALLY James Bond) and probably one of the best for the 30 later years.
I'm dying to see it again in theatres in a couple of weeks.

For now, maybe the only thing that disappointed me a little was
there is not a big fight between Bond and a bad guy (Waltz or anyone else) at the end. That is the same thing which lacks for me In Casino Royale or Skyfall...but you can find it in QoS :p

    Well...
the fight between Bond and Hinx was great but it happens in the middle of the movie, in the train scene. Not at the end like a good GoldenGate Fight in AVTK or in TB, GE, OHMSS, LTK...well it's a long list, but you know what i mean i guess ;)

To be honest, I'm sure most of us could find something to nit pick about it. But wow - this was certainly better than I was anticipating and what a difference it makes moving it back to the start. The smile on my face when the film started was immeasurable.

What a great feeling to start the movie with it ! You know you're gonna watch a Bond Movie for sure. I've been waiting to live that moment again since 2002...

Yes, give it a few weeks until everyone's seen it then go
" nit pick" crazy on it. :)) for now I too have a big grin on
    my face.

It would be cool if we established a better naming convention for the various riffs in the Main theme. I have heard people variously refer to pieces as "morse code", "vamp", "pyramid", etc. Much better than the syllabic "duh duh dunnnhhh". As many here have been on this list and have contributed much more than I have, I do not want to be so presumptuous as to define it for everyone. And maybe this has been attempted already. Incidentally, I would call the Vick Flick guitar portion (the Asian inspired piece written by Monte Norman) "The Twang!".

So now we have a way of describing the Gunbarrell "cues" better. Morse Code plays in darkness, white dots accompany "vamp", gunbarrell opens, shot, end with "pyramid". "Twang" not used.....etc, etc...
  • I like all the gun barrels in one way or another, and it's not even a deal breaker to have it at the end (although it's close), but sure nice to see it in that way again.

True, but that fight was good enough for me. Bond's dual with the main villain is more psychological than physical in this movie.

I quite agree with you ! But for exemple, in TND you know you're not gonna get a fight between Bond and Carver so instead of that, you get a fight with Stemper. I would enjoy something like a fight between Bond and C for exemple. But it's ok, i enjoyed the movie anyway. It just would have been the cherry on the cake ;) .

The SPECTRE gun barrel music appears to be the wrong notes.

    It should start

    Bdah... baaa

    Bdah... baaa

    Bdah bdah bah!

Tomorrow Never Dies used the end section of the JB theme which is not what John Barry intended. Just a minor niggle but times (and musical notes) change!

No, you're quite right and share my thoughts.

I mean.. since when have we known Craig's Bond for subtlety. He seems very much like the type to just walk about with it in his hand.

Sorry for my english , I'm italian :)
I think that if he is showing the gun while he is walking , the whole gunbarrel thing becomes ridicolous
The hitman beyond the "barrel" wants to fire Bond while he is not expecting to be under fire
If the hitman sees the gun , the entire gunbarrel concept does not have sense for me

In my eyes, there comes a point when one over-scrutinizes something that amounts to only a few short seconds at the beginning.

I under stand the traditionalist standpoint, and your argument, but ultimately all that matters to me is that the gun barrel makes editorial sense. CR get's a pass, but I think every other movie should have it at the start. That's the point in which I stop criticizing it.

    To each his own.

Agreed ...Although I give both a pass to QoS for something new and a chide for making ending the movie with a GB an option.

At the end of the day, it was just brilliant to see the gun barrel back at the beginning. My only gripe was why didn't Mendes open out on the dot instead of a fade out?
Kinda built us up...and then let us down again!

Using the dot to open out and reveal the letters would have been just as effective I think.

Great to have it back but one of the least interesting gunbarrels.

Thanks for posting that video. I think it looks great!!! Cannot wait until next week!!!! Interesting how it dims slightly when the blood falls leaving just the red circle and Bond. Reminds me of the end credits image in DR NO. I much prefer this to any of the other Craig versions.....just from the video. No complaints from me. :)

Its a great idea but the 50th anniversary was the time for it to be done along with a classic GB at the start.
