State your opinion on which James Bond theme version is the best, but you cant use Dr. No
My personal favourite is Licence Revoked from Licence to Kill :))

This version from the 1972 album (The concert John Barry.)

  • Interesting that that was recorded in 1972, @Murdock, because that sounds a lot like the slower-tempoed version of the theme Barry would incorporate into his later Bond films like Octopussy and A View to a Kill.

@Some_Kind_Of_Hero, Indeed that's the arrangement many link with Roger's Bond but it was made a whole year before Roger was even cast. Amazing.

Wait, why does the title refer to the 007 theme if the thread refers to the James Bond theme? I'm a little confused (and we wouldn't want that, would we?).

I believe the OP meant James Bond Theme.

I adore the arrangement of the version used over the end credits of OHMSS, even if its placement was a bit off considering the scene that came before it.

Always liked Bill Conti's version in FYEO when Bond and Melina are in the Neptune and during the climb at the film's climax.

I have altered the thread title for obvious reasons.

The arrangements heard in Moonraker, in the gunbarrel, freefall and gondola chase scenes. They're all similar, though not identical.

This is my favorite version. It's a slightly edited from a suite John Barry did in 1972 from the album "The Concert John Barry."

That's the first time Barry did a symphonic version of the Bond theme.

By the way, Barry did another fine rendition of the theme for an Elizabeth Taylor celebration:

Brought back the sax, too. I think Moonraker was the last time he used it before that.
  • FRWL is my favouraite version of the Bond theme, always preferred the theme when was faster paced.
  • Honestly the one from the end of Casino Royale. It's like the 60's ones but with a more lush arrangement.

I am partial to the one featured over the FRWL main titles. The bongos and gong crashes are great and it swings like no other rendition of the theme. You also can't go wrong with the original version from Dr. No's main titles.

I love TLD gunbarrel theme. Classic and iconic.
  • I love the version that plays while Bond is at the airport in Dr. No. Also the theme with Bongos from FRWL, and the OHMSS rendition

I absolutely adore this one. The trumpets and horns at 3:58, set against the Moog, bass guitar, tambourine and trombones sound unsurpassably exquisite.

The woodwinds set against the dirty guitar give the melody a especially sinister but badass vibe.
