A movie so secret even we don't know about it. Now playing at a hidden underground cinema near you.
UPDATE:
1. Yann Demange
2. Christopher Nolan
3. Denis Villeneuve
4. Sam Mendes
5. David Mackenzie
EDIT: What's interesting is both the recent rumours (Villeneuve and now Nolan) point to Warner, even though they probably can't make a deal of this size given the AT&T/Warner merger still being in limbo (deals that can affect the P&L are normally frozen during this sort of scenario). Moreover, WW's move up also indicates no Warner, unless they know something about Bond 25's release date being moved (back?).
Anyway, if it turns out that this rumor was complete BS, then archivo007 will lose ALL credibility.
I still think it's most likely Mendes for the hat trick.
If Babs and MGW can convince the IFF to allow a true adaptation of TSWLM (and I'd take that rather than these four-year gaps), Tarantino is the man.
A bit ageist. Ridley Scott is doing just fine, for one.
That said: David Fincher's schedule is open. He has not yet officially attached himself with World War Z 2. And the fact that he would even consider that, under pleas from Pitt, would suggest Fincher could be "talked into" Bond 25. ;-)
I don't share most others' affinity for MC. CR was built on script and DC. I find the actual directing itself to be second rate, at best. In some places, it has not aged well. During a recent viewing, I actually found myself laughing (not in a good way) at the embassy scene. The production design simply isn't on par with what Mendes did -- or even Forster.
Baz has built his career on not passing off rumour as fact so I think if he says something he should be listened to.
Much as I would hate to see a direct adaptation of Fleming's TSWLM you are right to be fair - Tarantino could do it justice brilliantly.
And why do we think Christopher Nolan would confirm to Baz Bamigboye before any sort of official announcement?
I don't personally hold much confidence in Nolan doing Bond 25, but I also don't think he would tell Baz so casually that he was, if he was.
My point is that Baz's tweet doesn't rule anything out.
In a vacuum his comment means nothing, but the simple fact remains he called P&W and he called Craig preferring Villeneuve (both of which have been confirmed since). So if anyone would know about something of this magnitude (including the stated rumour that Nolan has actually been working on the project), he probably would.
Archivo007's scoop is (apparently) from multiple indirect sources with knowledge of the project or at least the industry. Bamigboye is reliable in his traditional reporting, but in this case, while he spoke with Nolan directly, it is highly likely that Nolan would lie to him if he was indeed in talks to sign on for Bond 25.
I'm not saying either is or isn't credible. One is (apparently) industry sources. The other is a tweet from a reporter asking a director who potentially has plenty of reason to lie.
My main point is just to not get too worked up about either, and just wait it out for something real. You're not going to find answers from either of the resources in question until the powers that be want us to know.
So is Clint Eastwood
Vesper you should have opened the gate door. :)
