There is a chance as long as Craig stays.
NTTD was marketed as Craig's last Bond film in recent weeks. If Craig stays on for Bond 26, I assume this would mean a total rewrite/reshoot of the third act of NTTD to allow B26 to be his final film. I sincerely doubt such a thing would be greenlighted by EON, Fukunaga and Craig himself.
You are literally me, it makes me so angry that I can't enjoy new Bond adventures (especially CR and QoS tier) in this vibrant period of my life.
P.S. I was 10 when CR came out and I have enjoyed it to death
Oh ... I rely on your knowledge because I don't know and don't want to know the plot of NTTD now.
I don't know either. I'm only speculating that EON won't drastically change Craig's would-be final outing in under 7 months' time to make his 6th film his final one.
Single and uneducated when SP came out. Now has four children, two masters degrees and several wives!
There will be no drastic changes. Maybe the score will change, the CGI, there might even be some reshoots. But nothing to overhaul the film. In fact, word is CJF is ready to move on to his next film.
It was purely an economic and marketing decision. They potentially were looking at a possible $400 million drop on the box office at the Asian markets. Also, there is the current dubious nature in Europe. They had planned to hype the film across Europe this month. However, that would have been difficult for premieres as press events getting cancelled.
This is a minute-by-minute decision. Eon knew they had to pull the trigger now or later. I imagine that many big franchise films opening soon (Mulan, Black Widow and Fast and Furious) are also very lose to pulling the trigger.
Marvel’s last film made around $400 million in Asia. Without it, the film would have grossed under $600 million. Still a success but not a $1billion success. Disney won’t let Black Widow suffer the same fat. I’m convinced that film is next……
The 7 month delay kills my soul. Though it does increase the film’s visibility for Oscar season. Especially as Oscar is more friendly to franchise films these days………I think the following are now seriously going to be in the conversation:
I do have faith in this film, but best picture?! No way. Not in a thousand years. That's just unrealistic. As I said here, the Oscar nominations that seem realistic to me are these, with the bottom three and Zimmer's score being difficult to judge at this point:
Anything that can be considered main categories (best picture, best (supporting) actor/actress, best director) is absolutely out of the question. Not in the first place because they'd have to lobby like crazy, and I doubt MGM has any money left after a second (unplanned) marketing campaign.
You say that but Black Panther, Joker, Bohemian Rhapsody (all popular blockbusters) got Oscar attention.
If Skyfall had come out in 2020, it be a frontrunner for a best picture nomination. Remember it got a PGA and BAFTA noms – for best British film and supporting actor nominations.
Anyway…………………………………..we have a new Amma Asante-directed and Lashana Lynch/Ralph Fiennes advert coming:
Good luck with you continuing recovery matey. Don't let the postponement of a film, no matter how special it is to you, rock your world too much. NTTD will come and so will your health. All the best.
That's the problem. This is just a flu. People die everyday and no one bats an eye. Then a new virus comes around and everybody panics. Let's say that the media just started the new "panic trend" and everyone has to follow it. It's really annoying that Bond fans have to pay for this fooolishness.
I really don't get this 'loads of people die from influenza' argument. The idea that these folk find more people dying on top of that fine is ridiculous.
Also doesn't this new November release mean that the film is perfect for awards season?
The timing is disappointing, having just bought tickets for it on Tuesday, surely they knew before Tuesday there was a big possibility of a delay forthcoming. Maybe it would have been a better idea to not the tickets go on sale?
The statement felt impersonal and insincere to be honest, after all the setbacks and delays trying to get this film out, I would have hoped for more than one sentence of an explanation. Although if they would have done a video statement, Michael G, might have tried to claim this was a tradition.
I can't help but feel that the release date getting back to November is convenient to say the least, given that it's the usual time for a Bond release. Perhaps they were after this all along? I do hope the promotion in October isn't light because they've begun it in February.
I don't mean to offend anyone who knows those or are part of MI6 HQ but I think they're massively to blame for this. I don't believe Eon and Universal made the decision based off of the MI6 HQ letter but it definitely gave the decision makers food for thought after the open letter started to gain publicity. They have a large platform and frankly I don't think they've used it wisely.
I do hope other franchise's follow suit with this, otherwise this will look like one of the greediest decisions in cinema history. The worry for me here, is there is no guarantee that this virus will be a thing of the past by November, hopefully it is but it could be worse by then and make the producers look like they've jumped the gun.
Apologies for the super long post, I just had a few feelings I wanted to share on this. What a thing to wake up to after a 14 hour shift haha
The reality is they've probably made the logical and correct decision but as fans who've waited patiently for this film for years now, it's devastating.
Is the “media” powerful enough to compel the Chinese government to quarantine tens of millions of people? Is the “media” powerful enough to push the World Health Organization and the American Center For Disease Control to issue worldwide warnings? Perspective is interesting because some people look at the worldwide infection of 95,000 people (and counting) and say “That’s a small number. Why is everyone panicking?” Others look at 95,000 infections (and counting) and say “I’m glad governments and businesses are taking this seriously because that number could be higher.”
COVID-19 may be flu-like but we don’t have a vaccine, we weren’t prepared for how quickly it spread and we have to something so this doesn’t become a pandemic.
Nope:

The power of editing is really that you can cut something completely different feeling out of the same footage. Key is making it feel fresh and I think that's what they will do...
I agree. The tech categories are the surest bets; I have a good feeling about score, production design, ans cinematography. The song is also now a guaranteed competitor with the changed release date, as long as they manage to hype it again in November.
But if SF couldn't nab a Best Picture nomination with the number of previous Oscar winners and nominees working on it, NTTD doesn't have a hope.
I really really need you to realize that you're wrong about this. I work in a company that puts out the most prestigious academic journals in the world and am surrounded on daily basis by hundreds of doctors and scientists, all with MDs and PhDs, who spend every day reviewing the latest research and news coming in from all over the world and when this is the thing that they *all* talk about constantly, that means it's not foolishness or a "panic trend". This is not "just a flu"; the reported death rate from the WHO is 3.4% compared to a standard seasonal flu whose death rate is under 1%, and senior global health experts, including those in the US, are predicting that this will not be contained and could likely infect 40-70% of the population, and all of that is on top of those who are suffering from the flu, which typically takes most national medical systems to their breaking point. As stated before on these boards, I'm as gutted as anybody else that this movie has been postponed, but there is no way at this moment to properly release a movie whose title is, ahem, 'No Time To Die', whose plot is about biowarfare, and whose entire image rests on the glitz and glamour of star-studded celebrity premieres that now can't happen.
He did say it doesn't mention the coronavirus by name but it seems to be content based
No. And the only reason EON are delaying release is maximum box office in Asia not purely for humanitarian reasons.

Having Nomi and Moneypenny (as Naomie Harris was also supposed to be involved in a commercial) using Nokia constitutes actually some spoiler, if you've read some recent comment by Rian Johnson,
Regarding the delay, I'm naturally disappointed by it, but some of you need to leave your America-centered vision behind to understand what's happening. There's been concern for weeks about the coronavirus in various major countries of Europe, and the number of cases is growing. You are only at the beginning of the same situation. The delay was definitely not caused by the MI6 open letter, it's the result of a careful analysis of reality and actual financial interests that was weeks in the making. The Bond franchise relies these days on a nearly simultaneous release worldwide, with most of the box office coming from the first two weeks. And 70-80% of the box office comes from outside the US, which is quite high (It's 50/50 for Star Wars, for instance).
The virus is airborne, which also means that when the temperature rises, it will disintegrate. There should be some kind of relief, at least temporary, in May or June on the Northern hemisphere. But the release schedule was already full for the summer season, and November was almost definitely the first window they could find for a major project without too much frontal competition. I have no doubts that it was a difficult decision for them to take, but they had real concerns, which were more important than satisfying the hardcore fans.
I didn't say this. I'm just saying that other matters are more dangerous (e.g. global warming) and no one bats an eye.
