Perhaps with new blood, I don’t think a bond film could be released every year because then it wouldn’t be special, maybe not even every 2 but 2.5 or 3 years is perfect

2 is perfect,3 is tolerable, longer than that is a pain in the arse.

I always wanted 2 years but now that I think about it, we would have gotten the teaser for the new one essentially a year ago and it would have released 2 months ago, which I think is too soon from spectre, until maybe 6 months ago I was still soaking up spectre and deciding how to rate it and where it fits in , it gives us downtime to rewatch all the films and rank the new bond film among them if we have 3 years and now I’m finally done with spectre and could look forward to a new bond film at the end of this year. The problem is it’s not at the end of this year it’s at the end of next year.

    1) 1980s: Interesting plots; an engaging, relatively down-to-earth tone that doesn't exclude fun; and great stunt work.
    2) 1970s: Exciting films with great humor and a strong sense of escapism.
    3) 1960s: The Bond formula takes a bit to fully set in, but five terrific entries.
    4) 1990s: Two terrific entries and a solid one.
    5) 2000s: DAD and CR, yeah! QoS, uh, okay.
    6) 2010s: One is not my cup of tea (Skyfall), the other I love despite shortcomings (Spectre).

1980s- Honestly the 60s are probably the best but this is my personal favourite. Sort of a renaissance, and at their best they did a lot of cool experimental stuff. Some great plots, the action was unmatched, and the Dalton films are the peak of the series imo. At their best these films were really great, simple, straightforward spy stories that weren't afraid to take risks.

    1960s- Speaks for itself.

1990s/2010s- I enjoy these about the same. I love Goldeneye and think The World Is Not Enough is very underrated, Tomorrow Never Dies is decent enough too. I thought Skyfall was very good and Spectre was even better, improving and refining on a lot of what they bought to the table in 2012. I think at their best the films in these decades managed to be post modern and self aware, and fleshed out Bond a lot more, while still feeling like proper James Bond films.

1970s- Not a fan really. DAF has a great script buried in there somewhere but just descends into laziness by the end. LALD is really fun and had a lot to like but it's pretty flawed. TMWTGG is the film I'd pick if I had to pick an objective worst. So lazy and half arsed and just plain bad. TSWLM is a classic obviously but I think MR is a pretty dull uninspired sequel. Far from the best.

2000s- CR is really good but I've always admired it more than I've actually enjoyed watching it, it's a bit bloated and I hate the origin story/reboot angle. DAD I've come to sort of love but it isn't a good film really is it. It's fun but it is crap. QoS is my least favourite Bond film, I think it's a rushed disjointed pretentious mess and so many decisions they made there just piss me off.

    Yeah I agree with this.

I really hope not. I can just about get on board with one more but if he does another we could be looking at 20 years since CR before we get the next actor. Way too long imo. Change is good.

    1. 60s - Utterly impossible to argue against quite frankly. Peak Connery (and peak Laz!), peak Barry, peak Adam and for the most part faithful Fleming adaptations.

    2. 80s - A very solid run of films. Two corkers (OP & TLD), two very good ones (FYEO & LTK) and one average to poor (AVTAK). Best action of the series by some distance.

After that it gets difficult as every other decade has highs and some very low lows.

    3. 70s - The Hamilton trilogy that starts the decade is pretty grim to be fair. They all have their moments but this era is the most out of steam the series has ever felt. TSLWM and MR inject some life into proceedings and Rog at the top of his game for two films at least pips Brozza I'm afraid.

    4. 90s - One good film and two by the numbers but that beats the 00s.

    5. 00s - Shocking to see CR so low but DAD is as appalling as CR is good so they cancel each other out leaving just QOS which is bang average.

    6. 10s - One very good and one poor. Factor in the glacial release schedule and this is not a decade to remember very fondly unless B25 somehow rises from SP's ashes and delivers a barnstormer.

I think it’s important to point out that now as we’ve seen many Rankings, bond films on whole by decade are getting worse, which is sad.

Not quite sure there, I think the 80’s and 90’s both fared better than the 70’s.

The 10s seem not to be very popular... Sam Mendes and his lousy color filters I guess...

The 00s suffer from the transition from the classic times to the new times. If DAD was in the nineties it would work better.
The 90s would profit and the 00s would profit.

Don’t agree, DAD would take any decade down. My problem with the 00’s is that, despite one excellent film, it still only scores 1/3 in my upper half.

I believe there's only one excellent film in each of the 90's, 00's and 10's (to date) personally. That's been the problem recently.

    70s
    Includes Ranks: 1/2/8/14/16

My two top films currently plus another top 10. Also the weakest in the decade is highest ranked of all the other decade's weakest.

    80s
    Includes Ranks: 3/7/12/18/20

Two top 10s, and another in the top half of my rankings. The two weaker efforts are Rog films which always hold a dear part, so even while they are lower in rank, they are more of the enjoyable lower rankers.

    60s
    Includes Ranks: 5/9/10/13/15/19

Mixed bag with an average ranking that is not impressive, but all are fun and more Bond the better, most films of any decade.

    00s
    Includes Ranks: 4/22/24

A top 5 film in CR. QoS is currently 22, but I believe will be a riser in 2018.

    10s
    Includes Ranks: 6/17

Better average ranking than 00s, but with only 2 Bond films, I'd rather 00s if stranded on a desert island. DAD gives the 00s a fun OTT popcorn flick. That being said unless B25 is my worst ranked film, when the 10s are done, it will likely surpass the 00s.

    90s
    Includes Ranks: 11/21/23

GE has fallen a few in recent years, but still a very solid entry. I really do enjoy TND/TWINE (as I do every Bond flick), but something has to go last.

    2 2010s (tentatively)
    3 2000s
    4 1980s
    5 1970s
    6 1990s

Now that we know there won t be more films this decade, I can confirm this.

    1.- The 1960s - Unmatched, and unsurpassed.
2.- The 1990s - Conveniently updated the classicism of Bond to modernity, with a touch of nostalgia.
3.- The 1970s - Moore proved nobody does it better. Only downside is the flare pants fashion.
4.- The 2000s - Enjoyable outings for me, but not cutting through the upper half.
5.- The 1980s - Aside from TLD and FYEO (my favourite!), the era looks tired.
6.- The 2010s - The abysmal decade of uninspired content and long waits.
And a confirmation from my end. ;)

OK,i will have a crack at this :

1.60's No bad films, all classics, even though GF & YOLT don't rate too well in my rankings, out of all of them I think I re-visit TB most.

2.2000's I love CR & QOS and DAD is my drunken 'go to' film so this slips nicely into 2nd spot.

3.1990's I like all 3 films and find them very re-watchable in the company of BronsanBond, very entertaining, which is what it's all about.

4.1980's Simply for OP,AVTAK & LTK ..great films with brilliant action and many highlights from Sir Rog & Tim.Even FYEO is passable but TLD drags this down a bit.

5.1970's The 'so bad they are great' era.DAF,LALD,TMWTGG & TSWLM are all very re-watchable and can lift any sad/bad mood.
MR took things a bit too far for me,not one I watch often,at all.

6.2010's Only 2 films for starters, and the 4 year gap really annoys me and stinks of complacency and arrogance.
I love SF but its not enough to raise this era atm.

    Ditto here,Gentlemen.

1970s. DAF, LALD and MR are all top 10.
1960s. All classics. TB kinda being an exception.
2000s. CR is the only reason and DAD while ranked low, is still a soft spot film..
2010s. Skyfall and Spectre are decent enough. The former being in my top 5. But not enough films unfortunately.
1990s. I enjoy Pierce's films for the most part. GE being my all time favorite. However the other two are sorta meh and as I get older i dont see myself in tune with them.

1980s. OP is the only one I highly enjoy. Ive never been a huge Dalton fan. However the first half of TLD is amazing. FYEO and LTK are my least watched and never do much for me.

    1. 1960s: This should come as no surprise. DN, FRWL, GF, TB, and OHMSS - 5 of the 6 films from this decade - are all in my Top 10. YOLT is also a pretty decent entry overall. The gold standard all the way.
    2. 2000s: Elevated by my #1, CR, and the solid follow-up QOS. DAD is my least favorite, but it also helped provide the Craig era, which is second to Connery IMO.
    3. 1980s: Not sure if any of the films make my Top 10, but it’s a pretty solid collection for me overall. FYEO, LTK, and TLD are all in my Top 15, while OP and AVTAK are lower-ranked but still really enjoyable entries.
    4. 1970s: Hardest one to rank, because I love LALD and TSWLM, but DAF and TMWTGG are two of the series’ weakest to me. MR isn’t great, but it does have some good redeeming qualities.
    5. 2010s: SF always seems to stay in my Top 5, while SP seems to be stuck in my Bottom 5. So it’s basically 50/50 I guess. Only having two films is unfortunate for a decade.
    6. 1990s: GE manages to stay in my Top 10, TND has grown on me a lot over time despite its shortcomings (not Top 10 but probably about 15-17), but TWINE is kind of dull save for a few things.

Possibly the hardest ranking to do.

    1. 1960s - Five classics and one decent movie (YOLT). 9.5/10
    2. 1980s - Points for consistency. Solid action, locations, and scores throughout. Love the Cold War vibe. 9.5/10

    small gap
These are all tied. I love all equally.

    3. 2000s - two modern classics with CR and QOS. I adore DAD. For me its one of the most fun films. 9/10
    4. 1990s - If there had been Dalton films in 91 and 93, this would be higher. I love Brozza's films. 9/10
    5. 1970s - Great lighthearted action romps. Only TMWTGG holds it back. 9/10

    good sized gap

    6. 2010's - what @ClarkDevlin said even though I enjoy SF. Two films in 11 years is BS Mod Edit. Especially when inexpensive of them is SP. 6/10
  • edited November 2018 Posts: 16,182
    Ridiculously easy ranking for me:

    1. 1960's - 6 classic films. 5 of them, for me remain unbeatable.
    2. 1980's- end of the classic era. Again 6 films, one unofficial. I love the Glen era.
    3. 1970's - the transition from Connery to Moore was smooth, IMO and this ranks as one of the most entertaining eras for me.

    oh, dear........................

    4. 1990's- Bond is back with a bang after an incredible gap, and we return to a 2 year schedule (temporarily)

    5. 2000's - Craig takes center stage and gives us one of the most classic of the modern Bonds. Only three films, 2 of which are often considered to tie for the series absolute worst

    6. 2010's - SF was a 50th anniversary celebration and success, then a divisive SP, book ended by 4 year gaps. And to think I believed the series was re-ignited with CR and Craig and it would be a new beginning. This decade would finally me believe the end of the franchise is nearing sooner than we want.

    7. 2020's ??????????????? We'll see. If things dwindle down as they have the past 2 decades I'm feeling B25 may be the 2020's only entry.

    1. 60s - uncontested
    2. 70s - uncontested 2nd
    3. 00s - Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace are the best modern Bond films
    4. 90s - GoldenEye was great and Tomorrow Never Dies was solid
    5. 80s - Can't stand the cheesynes of OP and The Living Daylights, huge fan of FYEO
    6. 10s - too early to comment but Spectre was subpar
  • 1. 1960s: Really the only slot I didn't have to think about. DN, FRWL, GF, TB, OHMSS are
all in my top 10 with FRWL being my all time favorite. YOLT is the weak link
here slotted around 14th in my rankings but that is well above any other
    decade's worst.

    2. 1980s: Maybe a bit controversial. Although the production values were generally not
as good as what came before or after, I consider all five films enjoyable. The
80s was also one of the more consistent decades. AVTAK may be the weak link
here but it's better than a lot of people think in my opinion.

    3. 1970s: Pretty much on par with the 80s but less consistent. TSWLM, LALD and MR
were entertaining and although TMWTGG is one of the weaker entries in the
series I always had a bit of a soft spot for it. DAF also has a few enjoyable
moments but overall it's rather weak.

    4. 2000s: DAD ranks 24th on my list but CR (ranked 4th) is enough to push the 2000s
above the 90s and 2010s. QOS, a midtable Bond film for me is highly
rewatchable and gets better with each viewing.

    5. 1990s: The 90s are just above the 2010s in my opinion. The legal troubles that
plagued the early 90s did not help it. GE ranks just inside my top 10, TND is
ranked around 15th and TWINE ranks 22nd.

    6. 2010s: While Skyfall remains one of my favorites in the series (ranked sixth or so for
me personally), I found Spectre's execution to be rather flat and uninspired. It
doesn't help that Bond 25 was pushed back to 2020 which means that the
2010s will remain (for now) the only decade to not have at least three films .

    I'll give this another try:

    1. 1960's: all the entries in this decade score at least 8/10 with three of them getting a 10/10. All 6 entries make my top 15, four make the top 10 and three the top 5. No contest, surely.

    2. 1980's: with Dalton being my preferred Bond, it's not surprising the decade that includes TLD and LTK ends up this high. I also enjoy FYEO and AVTAK tremendously. Only OP scores slightly lower, but since I love 80's atmosphere in general there is little doubt this decade is my other 'favourite' decade in the world of 007.

    3. 1990's: nostalgia factors kick in when talking about 90's Bond. GE and TWINE rank among my favourites and end up in my top 10, TND is middling. I clearly like this era more than most.

    4. 2000's: CR and QOS kick off Craig's Bond tenure in style, but this era actually loses only just to the 1990's because it got DAD too.

    5. 1970's: I have a soft spot for TMWTGG but with TSWLM scoring slightly less spectacular than in most people's rankings and MR ending up second to last the 70's were bound to be near the bottom.

    6. 2000's: SF is decent but not quite as loved by me than by general audiences and SP is the worst entry so far in my book. Not a big fan here of Mendes' take on 007. As obvious as the 60's first place, is the current decade's last place.

    1. 1960s
The golden era. Connery's first four are all classics, a streak that will never be matched. Terence Young was the best Bond director ever.

    2. 1980s
More political, serious plots, reflecting the new conservatism of the decade. I like John Glen's straightforward, action-oriented direction; the Dalton films are absolute highlights of the series.

    3. 1970s
The camp era: from Hamilton's loud and colorful direction to Gilbert's large-scale fairytale fantasies. A couple of good ones, a couple of bad ones.

    4. 2000s
Simply for Casino Royale, of course. The other two entries share no similarities except their subpar quality.

    5. 1990s
GoldenEye is the only tolerable Brosnan picture and it's the one that wasn't written for him. The rest is, putting it mildly, forgettable.

    6. 2010s
I don't like Skyfall. I'm sorry. Everyone loves it, I truly dislike it. Spectre is awful, dreadful, atrocious; one of the total low points in the long history of the franchise.
