Enjoy!
No need to wait.
Craig will never be equal to Connery. Not even close. :)
Very good! :))
Craig was edging closer, even for me. Thankfully NTTD was released and it put Connery firmly back in place again as number 1. I doubt anyone will ever knock Connery off his perch.
It’s gonna be surreal seeing a Bond closer to my age.
2. Craig
3. Lazenby
4. Dalton
5. Moore
6. Brosnan
Would you say that factored in why you aren’t as enamored to him as his predecessors?
Had Craig's final film blown me away, he could have taken the number 2 spot (he already had done since CR was released).
Now his tenure is over, and the last 2 films have been a huge letdown, it looks like Dalton has nicked the number 2 slot, for me.
I was only 18 when Craig was announced as Bond, so he's essentially the last Bond actor I've ever had to look up to as someone much older than me. The new guy might be my own age, at the very least in my generation.
When Bond and Madeleine rode off at the end of Spectre, fans may have suspected an OHMSS type twist of fate awaited them in the next instalment. By reversing that, the film left the audience at my local cinema genuinely saddened. It took some time to really sink in; perhaps as it marked both the passing of an inspirational and beloved character most of us had followed since childhood, as well as heralding the end of tenure for the longest serving Bond.
Mixed with the melancholy though, EON and CF have left a powerful sense of intrigue and a tingle of excitement for the future. Where do we go from here?
In so many of the novels, Bond is resigned to his fate by the end; death seemingly inescapable. You could sense at times that Fleming was mentally flipping a coin to decide whether or not he should continue to write about the character or return him to the dealer as a busted flush on the green baise coffin of the card tables he so loved. Never more so than in YOLT and it is from there that I hope the franchise emerges:
A poison garden, Blofeld dead, a child that doesn't know her father and an agent who has come so close to death it has left him with amnesia. James Bond Will Return?
OR
Connery, Craig, Brosnan, Dalton, Moore, Lazenby
It just varies for me. But Daniel Craig is in my top two, yes, and has been since Skyfall. He was 3rd or 4th since Quantum of Solace. The only real consistency in my rankings is Laz.
Everybody is younger than me these days, pretty much. I just had to look up Pierce's age. He is 2 years older than me, that's all.
It will be interesting indeed to see how popular acclaim (movie-going public) for NTTD shakes out six months from now and a year from now. I cannot really guess.
Critics started strongly favorable, I am pretty sure, in countries other than the U.S. I don't even know how it is faring with critics in America - 50/50? I expect more criticism from U.S. critics, but I think some would like and appreciate NTTD a lot. Especially the skill on display in every department. The story's ending is where I see things going mostly 50/50 like/dislike.
Yeah I’ll be really disappointed if the IMAX stuff doesn’t make it to Blu Ray again as it didn’t with Skyfall.
Roger is probably my favourite! But Connery and Craig are perhaps level-pegging as the best in my book.
Last time I watched the film I noticed someone refers to him as Doctor and the dialogue between he and Bond seems to be heavily edited at points
Could it be he was going to be revealed as Dr No and they cut it?
Love how in such a fun way,he points out all the MASSIVE plot holes in the movie!😅
“ Now Bond has a daughter “
“ Weren’t his balls destroyed in Casino Royale ? “
I burst out laughing at that.
"gotta wrap it up" is a crucial point.
This was very funny - thanks!
Heh! I do enjoy that guy's stuff.
Actually, I love Connery's Bond as much as the next guy, but his portrayals as Bond were uneven. He was great in DN, awesome in FRWL and GF, but boredom kicked in with TB and his resentment is felt everywhere in YOLT. DAF and NSNA are Connery doing Connery rather than Bond. While not a single performance can top Connery's in FRWL in my opinion--absolute brilliance right there!--Craig's performances have constantly been great. Granted, Craig had different material to work with and something to say about it himself. Perhaps both eras can't be compared no matter how hard one tries. But while Connery had higher highs than Craig, he also had lower lows IMO. There are scenes in YOLT where he barely even acted anymore; he's just going through the motions--CUT! and PRINT!--without anyone telling him to step it up. The submarine scene with Moneypenny always comes to mind. I find it poorly written and badly acted. Craig has remained electric throughout his entire run as Bond. I applaud him for that.
