Starting to get down to the best of the best now.
That was me @Creasy47! And for the reasons stated. Too dark, too gloomy, and too much of the story depicted, when all we really want are guns/gals 🤣 I also think Craig looks rather awkward and uncomfortable in his appearance here unlike his cool depiction in CR/QOS.
Unlike you @Creasy47, I never liked the song either!
100%! I was very curious to see who the other one was. I couldn't agree more.
The first time I saw it, I thought it could have been a realistic title sequence to Octopussy, there are a lot of tentacles and octopus. 😂
But I'm afraid All Time High would not fit.
I wondered the same thing. They were both firmly at the near bottom for me, only "bested" by NSNA.
I liked SF, SF over SP any day of the week, It's beautifully shot and I also liked the transition, and very imaginative and creative.
Tbh, I really cringe at this scene.
The little moment is turning into a fascinating Rorschach test. ;-)
ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE
Main title sequence designed by
MAURICE BINDER
Binder’s trip down Bond memory lane strands just outside the top 5, collecting one bronze medal in the process.
OHMSS also acquired one 4th, one 5th, one 6th, one 7th, two 8th and one 10th place.
Only one member ranked it outside the top 20, giving OHMSS a lowest ranking of 23rd.
In total OHMSS’s main title sequence obtained 102 points.
- Goldfinger (Brownjohn)
- Thunderball (Binder)
- The Spy Who Loved Me (Binder)
- GoldenEye (Kleinman)
- Casino Royale (Kleinman)
Interesting stat: OHMSS ended in 6th place and it was also the 6th Bond film to be released.
GF and/or TB could end up in the same boat, but so far OHMSS is the only one.
That's interesting!
It's also in my top 10.
But yes, those scenes from the Connery Era projecting through an hourglass wasn't well edited.
The bests here for me were TSWLM, Goldfinger, and Goldeneye.
Not a fan of CR's title sequence, it's very animated and feels like a video game, especially the scene where the "James Bond-007 status confirmed" word was typed at the end, it's computerized.
Thunderball was just full of underwater and silhouettes, it's repetitive just changing colors, no transitions of scenes. In my opinion.
And if I can point out something that will make me sound weird: I find the angle at which the silhouette models are filmed at the end of the sequence to be odd. They look normal in movement, but the position they (and the camera) settle on makes their breasts look like strange little nubs.
3 of my top 5 still in the running.
It means something for the quality continuity in the franchise over the years.
Your comment reminded me that it is indeed Brownjohn who did the GF titles while I listed it as Binder’s.
Edited it now, thanks!
Except for TSWLM, which I had at no. 17, those are my top four.
True, I find it much better than TB too.
It should be at least in Top 5, then TB at #6.
Barrys pulsating theme makes up for them though!
Interesting comments on TB, if I recall correctly, they won the last time we did something like this!
