It looks good but I will say there was wayyyy more CGI in those sequences than I'd like after reading Mangold's thoughts on wanting to go as practical as possible.

I guess it was futile to expect them to make it look like a movie shot in 1981.

Mangold’s comments certainly left me with different expectations in the CGI arena though (and I’m not even talking about the de-aging tech. I’m fine with that.)

What comments are those? All I've seen him say is that he didn't want to use LED screens instead of travelling to real locations- I've not seen him say he wouldn't use special effects.

Compared with the Bond films which came out at the same time in the 80s, the original Indy films were way more special effects-packed.

Agree certainly the second one when the hood was removed in the trailer, they have plenty of time to fix some of the effects.

Also true! I’ll reserve any real worries for when I see the film. I’m still excited to see Indy back on the big screen.

Honestly, the Crystal Skull teaser was better. It was fun and showcased a couple good stunts and quips. This is rather joyless and generic, very much in line with what every modern teaser is like (sad echoing piano, rising strings, random action shots, humorous finale). And so far the leaks seem to line up with what's being shown.

Joyless? My God , this thrilled me to my core. The first movie came out the year that I graduated from high school, forty years later this trailer gave me the same feeling that I had then. It gave me chills. This is an Indiana Jones movie!

I'd be interested to hear how you think the leaks seem to line up @slide_99? All the supposed "leaks" said was that Mads' character was actually Toht from Raiders, which is complete bull, and that Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be taking over from Indy. The trailer hints at none of that.

I don't need the trailer, I'll just watch the movie.

Cool title though. I dig it. That's my archeological pun.

Having said that, what do you think of the Spanish translation of the title, @TheSkyfallen06?

In Latin America they're calling the film Indiana Jones y el llamado del destino (Indiana Jones and the Call of Destiny).

While I must admit my knowledge of the film is very limited, that doesn't strike me as a very good translation. It seems to me that the word 'dial' is in reference to some kind of artifact. But in the case of the translation, I wonder if someone assumed the word 'dial' was in reference to the verb 'to dial', meaning to call someone, rather than an object.

I often wonder if some of these translations are mistakes or are deliberate. Another lame translation was when the Harrison Ford film The Call of the Wild was called here El llamado salvaje (The Wild Call), rather than El llamado de la selva or La llamada de lo salvaje, or one of the other titles by which the Jack London novel is actually known in Spanish. El llamado salvaje sounds a bit strange to me.

In Spain the Indiana Jones film is called Indiana Jones y el dial del destino, which is a literal translation of the title. I don't know if the word 'dial' is common in that country. If it is, I can see the title working for them. In my case, I rarely ever hear it.

I haven't seen the trailer so I don't know what this dial is like, but if it happens to be a round object, I think the film could have been called Indiana Jones y la rueda del destino or Indiana Jones y el disco del destino.

I must admit literal translations are not always the best. In Latin America, Temple of Doom is called Templo de la perdición, but I prefer the title in Spain, Templo maldito. It sounds more striking, more dramatic. Perdición is a little bland.

    Edit:

    I just remembered this.

In Spain, Knives Out is called Puñales por la espalda (Knives in the Back). The sequel is called Puñales por la espalda: El misterio de Glass Onion (Knives in the Back: The Mystery of Glass Onion).

In Latin America, Knives Out is called Entre navajas y secretos (Between Knives and Secrets). The sequel is called Glass Onion: Un misterio de Knives Out (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery). That is a poor adaptation of the title, because it doesn't include the translated title of the first film in it (in this case, Entre navajas y secretos). In fact, it's completely disconnected from the translated title of the first film. It seems like such an obvious thing to do. They did it in Spain, they did it in English. But not in Latin America. This probably doesn't bother most people, but I find it annoying.
  • Feeling cautiously optimistic about this. The action setpieces look quite fun and the look feels more right than Kaminski’s overblown lighting in Crystal Skull. A bit worried about the nostalgia pulls with stuff like Sallah returning *again* and call backs to the rolling boulder, but a little self-referential humor in IJ is to be expected. Title is alright, I appreciate it’s not a mouthful after KOTCS, but I do feel it’s neither pulpy nor epic enough the way TOD and TLC, respectively, were. Not bad though.

It's meh, could have been better translated, it just sounds so corny, i'd rather have 'La Rueda' instead of 'El Llamado'.
Even better, have 'El Tchaikovsky Del Destino'.

Let's just get Tchaikovsky into every film title.

IJ and the Call of Destiny - the Spanish title translated to English - would be a MUCH finer title in English-speaking markets ! Would allude to IJ's overall life, as well as the adventure being shown. Dial of Destiny is awful by virtue of the use of the word "dial." May as well be "thingamajig", or "doodad."

The leaks gave us the title and the time travel aspect, as confirmed by the shot of young Indy wearing the German uniform. Also there wasn't just one leak, but a few with differing details.

Part of me doesn't think that Disney and Kennedy would go that far in
    destroying Indy
as the leaks tell us, but I wouldn't put it past them. We'll have to wait and see.

Ah I see, I suppose it depends what leaks we're talking about then. If I remember rightly the time travel aspects were leaked due to set photos, the title was just leaked recently but the "leaks" that involve...
Mads being Toht, Phoebe taking on the mantle and Indy dying or disappearing
...are complete fabrications based on basic information and pictures everyone had access to, in my opinion.

Stuff already known from the set photos, not leaks.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those rumours are true, seen the latest trends of letting a hero die etc…and since Harrison Ford has expressed clearly he doesn’t want anyone else to play this character…it could be a reason he’s participating in this….

But what if they Indeed use the time travelling aspect.. let Indy sacrifice himself and that he would go back in time… to be with Marion again.
We’ve seen zero of Marion and Mutt, and I think it would be weird of they completely cut them. But maybe Marion died. So if they would let Indy use time travel to be with her again, we have a happy ending + rumours to be true of him ‘dying’….

Edit: I went googling and found a rumoured ending, which was just horrible 🙊 and sort of is a f- you to al of the previous movies…. also read they have multiple endings..

One of the writers said that Mutt won’t appear. Shia really badmouthed the series, and he confirmed he wasn’t on good terms with them. As for Marion, unless she died, I imagine she will appear. Here’s a recent interview with Karen Allen.

The trailer looks good. Ford doesn't look bad for his age. The action is even almost Bondian at times...more like the old Bond films. I'm hoping the final film delivers...because for some reason, the film is currently having pre-negative thoughts thrown at it.

I am ready for this film, much more so than I was for KOTKS. The trailer looks good, indeed. My only regret is that we haven't had a few more Indy films in well over 4 decades. Still, I'm looking forward to DOD.

Exactly. Not an easy fact to accept that in all that time, we've had only 5 Indy films.

I am guessing that is a time rift/portal created by the Dial of Destiny.

It is a bit crazy they didn't make more. Even just Disney sitting on it for ten years makes no sense.

Time travel in an Indy is too sci-fi it’s like aliens in an Indy film…oh wait well I will see it I guess
