Which is the same length ovation Indy got, but curiously was reported as being a bad sign.

Standing ovations mean little anyway. People tend to clap regardless of a film being bad or good.

Even if something is hated, they'll clap and talk smack about it in the bar afterwards.

Top 10 summer movies 2023 WW Box office..

    1) BARBIE ($1,384M)
    2) SUPER MARIO BROS ($1,358M)
    3) OPPENHEIMER ($853M)
    4) GOTG VOL 3 ($845M)
    5) FAST X ($704M)
    6) SPIDER-MAN ATSV ($689M)
    7) THE LITTLE MERMAID ($569M)
    8) MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 7 ($560M)
    9) ELEMENTAL ($480M)
    10) ANT-MAN 3 (($476M)

Who would have said at the start of the year that Indy 5 wouldn’t even crack the top 10.It currently stands at number 13,behind Transformers 6 and John Wick 4.

It couldn’t even make bloody Ant Man money. As Yoda said in Attack Of The Clones “ How embarrassing, how embarrassing! “

I think even if it had been received well at Cannes it would have made little difference. The film just didn’t connect with audiences. If it had come out in 2008 coming off the good will of the classic trilogy,it may have done better but coming out in 2023 with the ( still potent ) poor reputation of Crystal Skull was a recipe for disaster.

in France, the movie has been seen in theaters by 2 921 279 people. It's currently at 9th in this year's box office. I guess its career here has ended, and it will probably be overtaken by something else.

It is also no. 9 in Germany so far (however with less than half of the French admissions), one position ahead of The Little Mermaid. The list is topped by Barbie (with almost four times as many tickets sold as DOD, i.e. 5.3 million), followed by The Super Mario Bros. (also above 5 million) and Oppenheimer (3.6 m).

That being said, M:I-DR1 is on pos. 12, Creed III at 16, and Ant-Man at 18. Could be worse for DOD. But for me, surprise, DOD is still the only movie this year that enticed me to go to a movie theatre (and even twice). Oppenheimer sounds interesting, but mostly for the historical subject matter, as my love for Christopher Nolan movies has been rather restrained. Mostly too pseudo-intellectual and artsy (cf. Interstellar, which I found annoying the one time I've seen it). Though recently Dunkirk was more to my liking, albeit with glaring anachronisms throughout the film. But I'll rather wait for a reasonably-priced BD instead of paying the same price for a cinema ticket in that case.

Wow.You are really missing out.Oppenheimer is easily the best film of the year, and John Wick Chapter 4 and Mission Impossible 7 are truly great action movies, far and away better than anything Bond has done in at least a decade.

Yeah, I'll accept that (not having endeavoured to watch any John Wick movie so far). But I don't have any emotional connection to the M:I films, nor Christopher Nolan movies, That's the difference that drives me to see the latest Bond or Indiana Jones film at a cinema instead, and nothing else. Among my collection of disks I have at least two- or three-hundred which I thought might be interesting and have bought over the last twenty years but haven't watched yet. Why should I hurry to watch a new film that I may be able to watch in a couple of years for less money anyway? If I consider the cost of going into the city and watch the original version (I'd insist on that, rather than a version dubbed in German, but I don't get in the countryside), and even take my wife along, we'd spend a total of at least 35 or 40 euros, not counting popcorn or drinks, instead of waiting for a Blu-ray disk that costs half as much and can be enjoyed at home repeatedly on our rather large (projector) screen, with drinks and their disposal at random, why go to a movie theatre unless you really crave a new film?

The guys at Machine Games did those fantastic "Dimension of the Machine" and "Call of the Machine" expansions for the recent remasters of Quake and Quake II, respectively. They have my utmost respect just for that.

I'm a fan of both Indiana Jones and Harrison Ford, and I enjoyed the movie, but it's not really a surprise that audience isn't very keen on seeing an action adventure film with an 80 year old actor.

That said, I generally don't care about the box office.

You know what? Me neither, because i don't base my opinions on a movie by wheter the box office or YouTube videos, i base it on my own feelings about it.
I don't understand how that's so complicated to understand for some.

Ship has sailed on that one.If Disney/Lucasfilm really wanted to make Indy appeal to younger viewers today, then they should have spent the last few years working on a great Indiana Jones game for modern consoles. With the huge success of the Uncharted and Tomb Raider series, it would have been a massive hit ( As long as it was good of course ).

They could have set it during Indy’s prime in the late thirties or early forties and even worked it in as a prequel to DOD. I’m sure Harrison Ford would have been willing to provide his voice and likeness to the game also.

I'm either missing your point or you didn't read the article, as they're literally doing what you said they should've: spent the last few years working on an Indiana Jones game for modern console (or console, I guess, since it's an exclusive).

My point is they should have released it before DOD.So that it’s popularity and appeal to younger gamers ( who were not big fans of the Indy franchise ) would have enticed them to go the cinema to see DOD ( Which the film pretty much failed to do ).

But yeah,I didn’t read the article in detail yet.

Some of the best films ever made were not big box office hits or underperformed; It's a Wonderful Life, Wizard of Oz, Shawshank Redemption, The Hill (Connery's finest performance, IMO), A Bridge Too Far, and many, many more, which are now ranked as classics or are highly regarded.

That's what I thought, and since I've had enough time (and two showings) to make up my mind about the film, it's not really tempting to take the chance of watching yet another YouTube rant. I'm fine with DOD as it is and am eagerly awaiting a Blu-ray release, no matter what the box office or self-styled "influencers" are saying.

I’ll finally be watching DoD tonight, so I can’t comment on the actual film, but I think posting non-stop YouTube videos is becoming a gas-lighting tactic by now. It’s obvious most aren’t watching these, but they’re posted too often.

Bottom line, I don’t understand why one can’t accept that many of the members on this site liked the film, and don’t want to be bombarded by YouTube nobodies telling us why we must see how the film was bad, and spoon feeding us reasons why we shouldn’t like a film.

It’s all getting repetitive, childish and yes, gaslighting, I think, to get a rise for anyone who doesn’t think as they do.

I wanted to see in the cinema, couldn’t find a showing. Then showings started up again, but didn’t have the time and it was released on home media the same week.
They screwed this release right up, going back to having Indy in Fortnite literally an age ago, rather than now. (pandemic effect possibly… ghostbusters, kingsman, and possibly Bond also had this issue)
The biggest problem is they let the NaySayTubers get their teeth in, and partially that is down to how badly they had messed up other films recently, so it was always going to be an uphill battle.

The same YouTubers who *also* regularly get PWB wrong anyway, so what you gonna do? *shrug*

I may have said that before somewhere, but I had only read her name for the first time that she was mentioned as being called upon to polish the script of NTTD. Before seeing her in DOD, there was a trailer in the cinema about a theatrical performance of "Fleabag"(? - I know what that is, just not sure it was about that) or something else, I'm not sure since I wasn't prepared. But our "original version" cinema sometimes shows theatrical performances.

Anyway, I was captivated by her even then, before the movie even started. And I found her, of course besides good old familiar Harrison Ford, the greatest asset to DOD. Love her performance. Not necessarily how the character was written, but she absolutely nailed it. She has an enormous screen presence, and while she is definitely good-looking in my book, she's not a sheer beauty like Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn or Catherine Deneuve. But hey, I think she must be a total fun person to connect to. Maybe I just love her ironical sneer or somewhat arrogant disdain at times.

Give me PWB over any of those overstyled red-carpet Hollywood blondes. And if "KK" was responsible for getting here to play this oh-so-woke role, KK is herewith applauded.

I simply don't understand why anyone at this point is still interested in YouTube 'analyses' of films anyway. Most of those are either angry rants, clickbait, or wishful thinking. I am very particular about the people whose reviews I want to donate some of my precious time to. And even then, I end up making up my own mind.

Peter, JW, JustJames & co: you all speak the truth. I’m glad there are some wise folk here.
Why do some people think that just because something is posted on YouTube it must be true? I can post my opinion on here: it doesn't make it any more factual. And yet I don't earn any ad money from it if I do: whose opinion do you think might be more suspect?

For your information,Filmento actually says in the video that he liked the film more than most.He just has issues with the ending.

If you haven’t watched the video, you can’t really say whether he’s on a rant or not.It seems there are some people here that can’t accept that the film was divisive amongst a lot of fans and refuse to accept criticism.

Which is fine, but that’s what a discussion forum is for, discussion. If you like the film great, just accept that there are a lot of people who didn’t.

Whether a kid on YouTube with a silly name likes a film or not is a moot point.

And you're right, this IS a discussion forum, so posting these YouTube rants actually does the opposite -- especially since most don't bother watching what you keep putting up here!
