I just treat the MCU as enjoyable Saturday matinee larks that you enjoy one afternoon and never look back on. I think people are too harsh on these films because they put them way too high on a pedestal as if they’re supposed to be a high standard like THE DARK KNIGHT. None of them are IMO.

I’ve taken that attitude with Star Wars as well. Aside from STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, nothing in Star Wars since has ever been special, and you know what? That’s okay. That’s the nature of when something that was once unique becomes an institution. This happened with James Bond, and I’m not complaining.

I agree, on all of the film series.

Don't we Bond fans know the feeling, in books, movies and video games? We're still one of the luckiest fandoms in the world, with products coming in on a yearly basis.

Yes, they are cartoons, basically. They're never great but they pass the time, usually well enough. But they can be done in a way which feels more empty than others sometimes, and then you get Quantmania.

Honestly, Bond fans are kind of spoiled. We’ve seen a lot of peaks and valleys with these films. We know we can’t get something like FRWL and OHMSS with every single entry, so we’re kind of grounded in our expectations of Bond.

Perhaps Marvel is going through the same thing Bond did in the mid 70s where it looked like it might be on the decline in popularity, before its resurgence with TSWLM.

I don't despise Larson or anything like some folk seem to, but I don't find her especially charismatic as a star. And when I watched the Capt Marv film I remember she had this peculiar thing of doing a sort of smirk all the time which was just a bit weird.

I agree with you on both things. She always looks kind of constipated in promotion materials as Captain Marvel. Plus, her mole on her face is really distracting. I still think Scarlett Johansson is worse. https://www.insider.com/scarlett-johansson-controversy-timeline-most-divisive-moments
Overall, I don’t want the MCU to be done, but I think it really needs to take a break. Also, rethink on some of the ways they portray themselves, namely in humor.
P.S. Samuel L Jackson is getting boring. When he’s Nick Fury, he’s truly in autopilot mode.

I find Johansson better: she's got more presence for my money.

I agree with it being done for a little while- they slowed down on Star Wars so I wonder why this is still full steam ahead. I think an issue with this film is it's some not-terribly famous superheroes who aren't massively imagination-grabbing, and not even played by big loved stars. They can fly and shoot lasers and are really strong and wear silly, over-designed outfits... just like all the other ones. There's not much exciting or new about their powers. I just don't feel the need to watch it.

I saw the Madame Web trailer and it kind of speaks to what I'm saying here: the setup and her powers are different to the sort of thing we usually see and that makes it more interesting. It doesn't mean it'll be a great film (indeed the trailer gets a little boring) but it is a more interesting concept than flying and lasers.

This ma see contradictory but I prefer more grounded superhero films; the Marvel universe has become far too complex and convoluted for my taste.

Sony are just mining any character they can from Spiderman's gallery of rogues and hero's. every time I see a Sony Marvel live action trailer it looks like a box office bomb in waiting.

I like Tippi Hedren's granddaughter though Dakota looks totally out of place in Madame Web, easily worst trailer of the year.

Sony has a remarkable formula of making really abysmal trailers.

Yeah, if you go into the comment section you'll see everyone saying it looks like "a movie released in 2007" or "a Fan-film".

Explains a lot from Disney: lots of the MCU, Star Wars and animated and Pixar sequels.

I have no doubt Iron Man will come back whether as a reboot or just set in the multiverse. Disney is about as likely to just sit on the character as WB would for Batman. WB didn’t quit after Bale left, after all.

I do admire Marvel for trying to look further in their source material. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY proved that they can at least use a lesser known comic titles and turn them into household names. But they need to continue hiring filmmakers with a strong voice. Guys like James Gunn, Jon Favreau, Ryan Coogler, the Russos, and even Joss Whedon were who made the MCU what it was. The next slate of films look like they’re by directors who were hired because they could easily be pushed around by the suits. Not a very compelling set of filmmakers there!

According to rumors, Marvel reportedly wants to create an animated movie universe like DC has been doing for some years.
This, if true, would not only open them to a whole load of new posibilities, but it would also be a great opportunity to let the MCU rest for some time while they plan its next steps, or, at least, that's what i think.

I do think the superhero genre lends itself much better in the animated medium than live action. I haven’t watched any of the DC animated films since THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, but I do love that they’re primarily one-off films that can tell any story, usually adapted from iconic stories of the past. I’m sure Disney recognizes how much of a rich catalog they have with 80 years worth of comic property.

Funny thing is that if Disney had started the MCU animated* that it would have completely changed the trajectory of the stories because then it would have been no issue with actors deciding to depart their roles. At this moment we’d likely still have Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, abd T’Challa alive and well, still leading these films.

*=Of course MCU’s inception predated the Disney purchase of Marvel.

You're right, there are so many stories that could be adapted into movies. If i had to choose any, mines would be:

    Spider-Man: Life Story
    Marvel Comics 2
    Powerless
    Bullet Points
    Marvels (Not the movie)

I'm not a superhero fan, but I've seen all the Marvel films until Endgame, and just one or two after that, but, my friend, I'd pay to see a film where Deadpool just kills the Marvel universe ;)

That being said, about the PG content, they'll have to stretch their inner thigh muscles for it. It's Deadpool after all. There's a confirmed beheading in the new one, so, I'd say they'll keep things up there (well...not the head).

Considering the pegging joke, I don't think there's too much to worry about when it comes to Deadpool being diluted.

Deadpool 3 is R rated, I have heard Reynolds has a lot of control on this film thankfully so it should be good, alas the MCU will still continue making rubbish after this.

I found it interesting seeing the 20th Century Fox logo buried in a few shots during the trailer.
