That's why the Lidls and Aldis of this world generally start selling Christmas stuff in September, so people can stock up in time.

Yes, from my retail days I learned that the Christmas orders are put in during July and start arriving in store in September. Madness, but there it is. I suppose the logistics somewhat dictate the early timing.

norwegian&swedish currency going in the toilet.....if this keeps up people will only afford going to Eastern Europe on vacation. Even Croatia gotten more expensive.

when checking the exchanges, I don't see anything impressive. But the inflation has taken it's toll Europe-wide.

Went to the local M&S today for Christmas food shop. They have plenty of desserts, but barely anything else.

You could say that the shop was desserted.

Ouch. That said their buches de Noel were great.

You can always rely on me to ignore the basic rules of comedy and deliver some terrible puns.

Well that didn't make me laugh, but I did smile.

No but more seriously, I'm really getting worried about Christmas Dinner. It's like there's nothing anywhere this year. And my wife is vegetarian, which makes things more challenging.

It is a stressful time of year in retail environments. Hopefully the other big supermarkets like Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys still have stuff left and will surely have more Christmas food stock coming in?

I've been to Lidl today. Interesting stuff, but mostly cheese and bread type things. Got back to M&S and found a little more. But need to get back closer to the date for lots of fresh stuff. Alcohol wise I should be okay.

Yes, they should have Christmas stock in again pretty soon as they'll want to maximise their sales in the run up to the big day. Hope you get all you need in order to make Christmas a special time for you and your family. 🎄

My wife is making an Asda order for Christmas Eve. We should be okay.

That's good to hear. It may not be as fancy as M&S food but it will undoubtedly be a bit cheaper.

For crying out loud. Have my first employee, trying 5o get her an assignment. Her new coordinator (of the assignment) wrote the order more than a month ago, but the buying department was too thick headed to understand it was a new contract. That's finally sorted, it's the broker (has to be in between by law, long story) that's in between is slow as mud. I want her to officially make as many hours in this month so I can invoice next month, but they're taking that away from me, which means I'm paying another month of salary with no return. I'll get the money eventually, but now I need the cashflow. Very christmasssy for these broker people to stop working so early. I know many probably don't understand what I just wrote, but believe me, it's utter s***. My company will be in trouble far longer than is necessary.

Has anyone noticed this trend of censoring words that aren't offensive or derogatory but related to controversial or upsetting topics? For example, 'v**lence' or 's*icide'.

Not on this forum but I've noticed it elsewhere online. It's stupid to be honest but then so is much of the modern world we inhabit. Seemingly everyone is triggered or offended by something nowadays so all bases have to be covered.

But that's the thing, these aren't offensive words, they're just unpleasant topics. Imagine if the news had to bleep the presenter every time they say 'w*r', 'cr*me', or 'm*rder'. Thankfully it's not very common, I've only seen it in a few places and not in any official publications. I just hope it stays that way.

That's a great idea. Now, for my personal wellbeing, I would like to propose the following words and phrases be censored as well:

    cens**ship
    contr**ersy
    offe**ive
    cancel cul**re
    ins*lt
    sens**ive
    me-cul**re
Oh, I can't believe you are so mean ** me!
    Justin B**ber

Voila. That should do it. From now on, anyone who doesn't honor my request, will be branded a bigot and held responsible for me crying in a corner while listening to music that confirms how gigantic my first-world problems are.

I've not seen it being used on the mainstream news media as yet. It's mainly the preserve of people on TikTok and Instagram who use euphemisms like "unaliving" instead of saying "suicide" in order to avoid the algorithm deleting their content. I have heard trigger warnings given on TV before an old film is shown though.

I didn't know about the algorithm. I guess that's understandable, even if it is a little an**ying.

Yes, I've heard creators saying that on there. I think they're "shadow banned" which means their videos don't get out to people unless they search for their account, but the account itself doesn't know that this is happening. The lack of engagement with what they're posting is the only clue they'd have that something was amiss.

I would say I agree with @Dragonpol and would add that it's very often people avoiding algorithm or other censorship being misconstrued by typically conservative-leaning folks as being "woke" attempts at avoiding trigger words.

People reaching 300 pounds of weight and then one day going. Oh my gosh I need to lose weight. Like they didn’t notice when they hit 225. anyways, Casino Royale the movie that everyone thinks is so perfect. In the first 10 minutes. He says holster the bloody weapon. I need him alive. Six minutes later shoots him dead.

This thread is for general complaints, not just Bond complaints, so thank you for both. As for your CR comments... my take was that it's clear Bond doesn't want to kill him, but the way events play out, it really came down to "one less bomb maker in the world" when Bond had his back against the wall and couldn't escape with his captive. So he does what he can to solve his mission and gets out of there. The point of M.'s conversation with him later is to point out that Bond and M. are on the same page, operating through different methodology, which is how they respect each other. That scene shows she doesn't quite trust his field instinct yet, but by the time he's at the airport in Miami, she clearly trusts him.

Bond wants him. Alive. But if he can't have him, then a quick kill is option B. Plus, the confusion buys him time to escape with the backpack, which turns out to be just as good: shoot a terrorist, take his stuff. Not a bad plan. Besides, if he had been able to interrogate the man properly, I don't think he'd have left him in a more presentable state afterwards. He gambles, but then that's what he consistently does in this movie. He gambles with his life, profession, pride, love, and his boss's money. It's sort of the theme of the film IMO.

Sadly, I have tested positive for COVID-19. Unless there was a past asymptomatic or extremely mild case, this is my first time with it. It already feels awful, but my main stress is coming from the whole leave of absence process with my place of work, which I know could go wrong in several ways. Just have to try my best and hope I’ll have both my health and my job once this is over. Been a really rough start to the year all around unfortunately.

Thank you @DarthDimi. It’s a raw deal for sure. Even trying to sleep is a bit hard due to symptoms and stress, but besides a doctor’s visit, resting and drinking water is all I can really do for now.

All best wishes to you for a speedy recovery, @FoxRox. Take it easy and rest and try not to stress too much. If the US federal or state law is anything like the UK your employer has to recognise your illness and allow you time off to recover from it as well as sickness pay. They shouldn't be able to terminate your employment simply for being sick so don't worry.
