Fair enough. Is there any particular reason you feel quite strongly this way and get this impression? From what I've seen him as an actor and in a couple of interviews I think there's definitely a self assured confidence and charisma there that I can see being channeled into a Bond portrayal. Just curious as I just don't see many downsides to him, at least as a contender, and I'd like to think I'd give whoever's cast the benefit of the doubt, even if they weren't my pick. But like I said we're all different.
Exactly, which also applies to people who say Craig will be "a tough act to follow" etc. As if the next guy is going to be doing their best attempt at recreating Craig's Bond, rather than embodying the character on their own terms.
We've seen Craig try to do a Peirce/Moore portrayal, he's hopeless at it.
Exactly. Nobody ever imagined Craig would say something like "Yes, considerably" in that manner. Bond 7 would surely have his own moments that we won't see coming, until it's filmed...and some people might quicky change their favorite Bond actor here to Bond 7, LOL. Some might even start maligning Craig's Bond, like they did to Brosnan's Bond...immediately Craig's Bond impressed in CR.
I actually like his performance in Spectre, and what they were doing with the film. I would say Casino is his best Bond performance followed by Spectre. Skyfall is great but he's not exactly "in the saddle for a portion of the film" which lowers it for me. Quantum he's simply just not given enough material to do with beyond looking vengeful the whole time. And NTTD is basically him acting like Benoit Blanc.
Is there a reason why you feel so offended that someone may not see Callum Turner as Bond?
As I said, it’s just my opinion of him as a person and an actor. I’m not sold. It’s nothing personal
Oh, I’m not trying to be argumentative. I’m definitely not offended by anyone saying they don’t like an actor for a role. Like I said I’m just genuinely curious as to why specifically you feel that way (it’s a pretty big thing to say you’d be disappointed if an actor was chosen for Bond - don’t get me wrong I can understand the feeling, but it’s quite a big thing to say as a fan).
It’s more just trying to understand why you get that vibe off of him (or lack thereof for Bond) :)
Surely there are actors that irk you, that others may like @007HallY ?
Oh yes, I’ve got actors I don’t like that others like here! Again, I’m not trying to argue or be defensive.
It’s actually kinda interesting because I’d agree to an extent - Turner does have a sort of self assured confidence to him that I can see being viewed as cocky (I don’t quite get a smug face, but as you said it’s all subjective). For me it’s a major reason why he may have Bond potential. I think Bond should have a bit of cockiness to him at times (it doesn’t quite drift into being unlikeable insofar as it’s a fine line for the actor to play - and personally I don’t think Turner has ever passed that line from what I’ve seen of him - but Bond is a bit of a ba*tard as a character at times and has moments he can drift into arrogance).
Agreed, I saw him and Austin Butler in Master of the Air and both of them are basically pretending they're Emo Spiderman.
Come to think of it, there are a few. >:)
Perhaps we have already seen the next Bond but don't know it because we haven't pictured him in that role. A versatile actor should be able to play any number of roles. I'm not looking for a Bond who becomes the actor, but an actor who becomes Bond. There are actors and there are personalities. Personalities play themselves, which is why I was not a fan of Moore and Brosnan. Both were good and had their fans, but I saw them more as the actors rather than the character.
If the next Bond doesn't appear in the PTS, I hope that within fifteen minutes of the opening titles we'll be saying to ourselves "nailed it.!"
Spectre PTS? Funny, I feel that's the only time it felt like Craig was Bond.
I got a bit of a Moore vibe from Craig in the NTTD PTS, particularly when he was driving the Aston Martin with Madeleine in beside him. Maybe it was because he was a bit older, into his 50s, but it definitely reminded me of Moore. That's not a bad thing in my book as Moore is one of my favourite Bond actors along with Dalton.
Craig in SPECTRE is fine. It's as if he doesn't have to prove anything at this point.
And honestly it may be more important now that Amazon is doing this. With EON people might at least have thought that Barbara had found another hidden gem like Craig again. But people associate Amazon with shows, aka streaming content. Someone like say Aidan Turner or Theo James or Leo Suter just screams "streaming content" or "James Bond TV show." They are going to want people to believe that Bond will be a big theatrical event again. It needs a proper big screen leading man.
But they also shouldn't choose someone that's already too famous. And especially one that hasn't been a flop. So hopefully they don't just choose Henry Cavill, the safe pick. Nicholas Hoult has been getting some good film roles lately, so I think he could fit the bill a bit. Though I don't know about him being Lex Luthor and Bond at the same time. That's just too odd. Maybe Mescal, but it sounds like he bombed in the Gladiator movie.
My pick out of the all of the candidates at this time would be Josh O'Connor. I know a lot of people don't think he looks right for Bond, and I didn't either when I first saw him. But after seeing him in Challengers (produced by Amy Pascal for Amazon by the way), La Chimera, the Aston Martin ad, and some various interviews he has become my favorite. He's got a coolness and charisma about him that starts to come across after actually watching him. And it's more subtle and effortless and comes naturally from the actor, unlike with a try-hard like ATJ. It's not something you can see by just looking at a few pictures. And he seems to be on the verge of stardom. He's about to be starring in the next Knives Out film with DC, and he's in Spielberg's next film as well. I realize the only reply this is going to get is someone saying something about his ears or nose or something, but I'm telling you, I think he has something. And to the person who said he wasn't handsome, a lot of women seem to thirst over him online. And I showed Challengers to my gay male roommate who said he thought he was "hot." So I don't know...
It was my favourite Craig performance. Kind of like Connery in YOLT. Not trying too hard suits cinematic Bond in both cases IMO.
Someone suggested him before, and I remember seeing that first image, and thinking that he has a touch of Lewis Collins to him. I think it's the hair.
Josh O’Connor has huge ears. It's not a shallow observation, they're unnaturally sticking out.
If Amazon want to consider him then he should have his ears pinned back. And personally I don't think he looks remotely James Bond but I thought the same about Daniel Craig. The general public accepted him so fair enough.
I personally don't think there is a stand out candidate for Bond 26. I'm not sure the franchise has any exciting future ahead. I don't have any faith Pascal and Heyman will have any clue who to cast. What do these people know about Bond? Not much or anything.
Were’s a new Dalton when we need one? Does that type still exist? Handsome, rugged, cultured, intense?
I will say, he's a bit of a lightweight, but that's easily rectified with a gym and a trainer. As for his ears, I doubt anyone will notice (or care) after his first few minutes on screen. And he can always grow his hair to cover them a bit.
