Just bought these from a charity shop for £11.99, they look brand new no wear at all and sound pretty good.

I must have over a dozen sets of headphones and ear monitors etc now.

Bought a retro CD walkman last week it's actually pretty good I was surprised by the functions on it and the sound is good which is likely down to the headphones I used.

I have a multitude of ways to listen to music though I like the experience of using CD and Cassette players, physical media should never be lost.

@Torgeirtrap How's your home now, all settled after the renovation.

Cool! I have an old portable CD player boxed up somewhere. I last used it in 2011 (I can actually remember exactly when I used it), but it's been boxed up for almost as long. If I can dig it out, I might give it a try!

These players could vary in quality (I've had others that just stopped functioning), but this last one I bought was (or is) quite sturdy. I had it with me in bags, on planes and bus trips and more, so it could handle being used.

The two rooms I had renovated are both a work in progress still, as I haven't placed everything I want to have in the rooms there yet – or bought! Here's a photo of the built in desk and shelves I had made; the shelves will be filled eventually (obviously with Bond books and more), and I only used the desk for the first time last night.

I need to find a solution for the audio gear I want to use in this room. I'm tempted to go for the Montana Spin unit to store some records and place my Tandberg TR 200 C on top. Since it has wheels, I could easily move the unit around the room too —but the price is insane!

Looking good certainly space saving, my desk space is a mess way too many visible cables.

I have a lot of shelf space on my TV stand set up so majority of living room tech is on there.

The recently bought headphones don't have the detail of some of my other pairs probably down to the extra base. The extra base is usefull when listening to my retro cassette walkman and CD walkman if I don't use the CD walkman equaliser.

Despite having a lot of headphones etc they have thete individual uses, I will likely buy more headphones as I enjoy collecting and displaying them.

Having a mobile unit for audio equipment makes sense, what kind of flooring do you have in that room?

Just bought another 100 CD slim line cases and another 500 inner double CD/DVD/Bluray cases. My CD purchasing has gone nuclear, I have lost track of how much I have bought in recent months.

I certainly don't expect my desk space to be this tidy when I start to use it more, haha!

A decent TV stand is something I'm missing at my place. I've had a makeshift setup for two years now, as I've been unable to find a replacement I'd be happy with. Either they're too wide, too narrow, made in material I'm not sure about, or the wrong colour. Price too, obviously!

I've been using a lot of airpods and wired earpods for regular use the past year or so, as I need a replacement cable for my Sennheiser headphones – which I've not prioritised getting. As well as getting a replacement cable, I'm tempted to get a second pair of headphones too, but I'm not too sure about which price point to target. I think I will either go cheap, or a bit more high end than the Sennheiser pair, depending on how I'll use the Sennheisers going forward.

A mobile unit makes sense for this room in particular, since depending on how I use it and the size of the room, I might have to be able to move things around. Before the renovation, both rooms had cheap laminate flooring. When I lifted a few floor boards I saw that the original pine wood floors from the 40's were directly underneath, and when I had the builders start working on the room, we saw that the original floor boards were in good shape. So I got them sanded and treated, and they now look almost like new – only with uneven spacing and a few deeper marks here and there to show the true age of the floorboards. The floorboards are also a bit narrower than modern floorboards, as in those days, immediately after the war, wider floorboards wasn't that common – at least not in ordinary post war housing.

It's good to be in in the position to literally start again which I will be at some point this year. We can design our place that much better than last time and take that extra care and time.

It must have been a fun process in that you had an insight into the original build.

I have spent money on headphones though also got lucky on realively good quality ear phones etc at cheaper prices.

Indeed! I plan to take whatever time I need to get this room right. A lot will come down to that record storage unit and the solution I look to find there. The rest will be just seeing how I start using the room, and not being afraid to change my plans accordingly.

I'm really happy I could use the original flooring, and that the original build was in decent shape. They had to be cost effective when building new houses in the post WW2 period, but they built for them to last. I can see many buildings in my hometown built as late a the mid 2000's that are already in need of upgrades, so moving into an older building doesn't need to be a bad thing, even though upgrades are to be expected.

I've been more unlucky with my purchases. I've really struggled to find options that have lasted – the Sennheiser's aside. I can probably blame myself though; just picking up a pair isn't necessary the best idea – especially if buying brand new.

Agree we live in a disposable world now in most aspects, most things are designed to fail. I recently only bought my first new phone in maybe ten years only because I was forced to because of updates and prior phone not able to cope any more. My new phone is military grade and small and ridiculously durable as I want it to last as long as possible.

Many new house builds may as well be made of paper, several years ago we had a fire where I live though as the building is hundreds of years old and solid stone I was not that worried.

My most valuable two sets of headphones still look brand new and work perfectly, paying that bit extra is worth it. Having many headphones options does help as I use all of them which reduces potential wear.

Guarenteed if I see another headphone set that's worth buying I will 😂

Sorry, I didn't see this until now @Fire_and_Ice_Returns! I've had my current iPhone for several years now, and it's only the battery capacity which is starting to become an issue. It's no worse than having to charge it once a day or so. I might have to upgrade soon though, but by then this phone has served me more than well enough.

Indeed. We had a former municipal preservation officer (I think that's the right term in English) stop by my workplace earlier this year, looking at the building the offices are located, as there are plans to renovate the exterior of the building, which is an older building. He told us a bit about new builds, and told us that in our hometown at least, there was a period between the late 90's and the mid 00's where the build quality was really bad. Everything was about how building as cheaply as possible. The building quality has been better in recent years though, from what he could tell.

I've had many headphones through the years. In a period I bought these cheap but good sounding ones from a local supermarket, but you knew that the build quality meant that they were only going to last for so long, so you ended up buying a new pair once the first one broke. I'd be better off buying a decent pair in the first place!

I've been using my "office pair" of Bowers & Wilkins headphones for a while now. I'm quite impressed by those, and might consider getting a similar pair for myself to use at home. These can be used, and I think I mentioned it earlier, wired and wireless, but I think I prefer getting a set of wired ones if I'm going to buy myself new headphones.

I was surprised how good my new phones battery is, my phone is also a power bank so my phone can charge other devices which is handy though I already have a few other power banks 😂

Yeah here in the 90's I felt many new builds for shops etc were designed to be converted into flats etc if required at a later date. I Appreciate old World architecture, thankfully where I am there are many villages that date back centuries and fantastic old castle and churches etc.

Bought a new game controller yesterday so bought a stand also for it which also has a few headphone holders on it so I have space for more sets of headphones 😂

Which phone did you get, @Fire_and_Ice_Returns? Since I got so many Apple devices now, getting anything but an iPhone is not an option. Luckily I've only had good experiences with the iPhones I've owned.

I very much agree re. old World architecture. Most buildings in my hometown are post WW2 builds, since the town was bombed during the war. Before then, there were a lot of ornate Art Nouveau buildings, but the Post-war architecture became very simplistic and functional for obvious reasons. There's beauty to those kinds of buildings too, but unfortunately, not all of these buildings have been well maintained.

If I find a pair of new headphones I'm happy with, I will likely buy a stand for them. Not sure what kind of stand that will be, but maybe a nice walnut coloured one, or something like that.

I can relate there are a few services I am locked into as I have years of content purchased through them.

My phone is Ulefone Armor Mini 20 Rugged Smartphone, I bought it mainly as its quite compact for a modern phone though has some great features, including a underwater camera, nigh vision camera and the torch and light options are very powerful, it has all sorts of tools that are handy when out and about in the countryside.

I have five headphone stands plus a small mdf shelf unit that has four headphone hangers on the sides.

Looked online many times at headphone stands there are so many options a lot of gimmicky stands also (movie characters etc). My stands are black minimalist and functional, quite boring 😂 .

They are also very capable of building ecosystems that, if you already like their products, you are very likely to stay within when making future purchases – even if there are just as good and/or cheaper options out there :))

Never heard about that phone before, or the brand for that matter! Interesting. Looks very much like a phone people that are into EDC (everyday carry) would like. I don't have much EDC stuff myself, but I do carry a Victorinox pocket knife in my backpack.

Sometimes less is more! I see that brands like Ikea are doing accessories like this too, very much to tap into the whole gaming culture, with gaming desks with hooks for headphones as one example. I will likely get one that's more in the interior direction though.

I do a lot of hiking, running and cycling so the Armour Mini phone is ideal for me. My last phone is the size of a tablet and you need a back pack to take it with you 😂

You can get many accessories to attach to furniture and tables so you can move your headphones around, I need a new desk for PC etc though will wait until I know what I am doing with regards to moving, to be honest I could do with replacing most furniture and starting fresh.

This phone makes sense, then! I usually only play football to stay fit, and you don't use a phone on the pitch, so the iPhone serves me well enough. I made sure to get a smaller model when i got my current iPhone, as I see little use to pay extra for a bigger phone. It fits better in my pocket too!

I spent a lot of time deciding what I wanted for my own desk space. I only use a Macbook at home and don't have any external screens right now, so a multi purpose built-in desk was the best way to go in the end. I did consider several Ikea desks though, especially their electric height adjustable desks. Having the opportunity to work while standing was tempting, but since I will only use the desk when I have to do a bit of work from home, and maybe not many hours at a time, I decided against getting one of these.

I might be tempted to set up a small music setup on my desk eventually, but I'm not sure yet. My current speakers and amps could be a bit heavy for the desk, so it will only happen if I find a solution that lightweight and makes sense to get.
