You know what really kills me? QoS gave them such a great template for a glorious future complete with an omnipotent adversary and everything else you would imagine a Bond film to have, but they choose to sacrifice at all to give Mendes his washed up Bond.

100% agreed. And as bondjames said, the 4 year gap did not help either.

WHAT? You should spend some time pondering why Skyfall is UNIVERSALLY regarded a masterpiece compared to the messy QOS.

That and the long gap perhaps caused them to re-evaluate approach. Nolan nailed it with TDK in the meanwhile and the rest is history.
In the meanwhile? Umm, TDK was released before QOS.

Quantum of Solace would've been so much better if the story was given some longer pace to breathe and the shaky-cam Bourne influence was abandoned.
Completely agree. There is a noticeable improvement around the time Bond enters Austria, when it slows down at the Opera after the quite frenetic start.

Bang on when writers strike hit and Haggis didn't want to cross the picket line. QOS final scenes are like a fire at Ikea. Intended ending was Bond driving to Whites home observing him meet with Guy Haynes and executes them both. I wasn't a fan of Dominic Greene as the main villain. His introduction is woeful just hanging around in a fish shack. I still enjoy QOS's place in the series. TOSCA scenes and his time with Mathis are a highlight. I think Giancarlo was excellent as Mathis.

According to Archivo007 (who doesn't precise where they have the "info), Ben Cooke will be the stunt coornator in B25 :

Dan's stunt double on Casino, QOS and Skyfall replaced by Gordon Alexander, Andy Lister and James Embree in Spectre.
Replacing Gary Powell? Any more info with this, @ggl007?

You're right. Here is the news: http://bit.ly/2gxZoE1

Ben Cooke in Bond 25. No Gary Powell.
Interesting. Ben Cooke himself was the stunt coordinator for both the 2010 Bond video games Blood Stone and GoldenEye 007: Reloaded (and its Wii counterpart).

Yes, QoS has some very memorable individual scenes. Giancarlo Giannini's Mathis is one of the best allies Bond has had in some time.

I really am interested in that alternate ending. I think it would have been spectacular and a nice closure and mirror to the ending from CR. The one we actually got wasn't bad either though, and perhaps was more fitting to showcase that Bond wasn't the loose cannon haphazard killer he was made out to be during the film.

I don't think we'll be seeing that alternate ending until extras become a thing again.

I really hope they get back to giving us better extras, instead of featurettes you can find online.

    I dream of that day.
  • //Wow mate, the whole thread is about speculation. Until EON make announcements nothing is definite that goes without saying.//

I'd take this a step further. Until there's a distributor in place, a lot is uncertain.

It would be different if either/or MGM and Eon self-financed Bond 25 and they simply needed to hire a studio to distribute it. But it's likely B25's distributor will be expected to kick in a significant chunk of the production budget. Sony, as we all know, co-financed Skyfall and SPECTRE.

Until that distributor is in place (and the financing is nailed down), not much is going to happen.

It has been almost 90 days since the Bond 25 release date was announced and there is still no distributor. Earlier in this thread, some posters were sure there'd be a major announcement on Oct. 5, Global James Bond Day. Didn't happen (except for that one-day T-shirt discount).

I already did the pondering and came to the conclusion that most people are very easily gullible by pretensions and an air of grandeur. Just look at yourself.

Really upset if Gary Powell is indeed not returning for Bond 25. Bond has been with his family for decades. I have to imagine that, if he isn't returning, it's because of his own busy schedule and he likely recommended his replacement. I'm just not sure the current report is to be taken at face value just yet. Things are only just getting started.

That's fine. But we don't *know* whether that's in place or not. Here are the facts:

--July 24: A Bond 25 release date is announced separately by MGM and Eon.

--There has been *no announcement* about a Bond 25 distributor since.

Yeah Gary Barber announced that details on distributor would follow. I suspect a verbal agreement has been made enought to lock in a date and get things moving, but could not confirm until i's dotted and T's crossed. Fairly confident it's Sony for one more.

maybe gary powell got replaced because just saying spectre's stunts excluding the train fight and pts were definitely not on par with the series has done on a whole and they need to go back to stuff that are exciting not half glass full lazy stuff

I will list all the possible scenarios that would spell disaster:

    - the return of Blofeld
    - David Arnold hired as composer
    - no third screenwriter polishing the script
    - Sony distributing

@SirHilaryBray I really hope you are wrong about Sony.

With MGM looking for a buyer I don't see them jumping in to a long term arrangement if Sony are prepared to do a one film deal on the priviso Craig returned as is brings the box office cash they want.

Logical after then MGM under new ownership and leadership with EON decide who the new long partner will be. Enter a new Bond and new reboot. Fresh start.

I think the Arnold ship has sailed. I don't see him return. Expect Director to bring in their own preference to match their vision for the film.

As for the 3rd man input. I think someone will come in to tidy up dialogue. Barbara and Mike like to stick to people who have delivered for them so possibly Matt Greenhalgh who wrote the screenplay on "Film Stars don't die in Liverpool".

Would be a massive coup for the franchise. But to be honest I would be happy with any of the names linked.

David Arnold is as good as John Barry and it’s a shame that he hasn’t been working on the last two and it will be a disaster if he is not involved in B25.

Arnold's return would be more that welcome. Love every single one of his scores, especially tnd and qos. Open to a new composer though. Newman i would be extremely hesitant about aftter his disappointment for sp, but i wouldn't throw a fit like some members here would.

While to a degree, Arnold's return would represent a retread of old ground, all things considered, it would be good news. His work has been growing on me lately, and it pains me to see his theme for Quantum of Solace, No Good About Goodbye, went to the trash can. While his action music can be a bit rambling, he can come up with some great themes, and his scores sound right. At any rate, should they keep him in check, he could turn in good work.

Edit: what the director du jour should do is make sure Arnold comes up with plenty of good thematic material even before watching the film, like Marc Forster did. Without a strong set of themes, Arnold's work suffers.

It has been almost three months later and there's no announcement.

You may be confident. Maybe you'll be right. But as of Oct. 20, there is no Bond 25 distributor in place. This isn't just a formality.

Having just watched Spider-Man: Homecoming, again, and having had goosebumps every time the film's main theme played around with dramatic emergence, I endorse Michael Giacchino for a Bond gig. The guy deserves it and will be the greatest successor John Barry would have.

Arnold as good as Barry, continue smoking whatever it is you are puffing on as it must be pretty strong to formulate such an opinion.

Barry is a one off, a genius likely this world will never see again, possibly a little new to the series are we, PB era fan.

Some of you Bond fans make me laugh with such comments, do you realise what Barry bought to the series?

One of the most significant contributors to the legacy of Bond and all that have followed have been playing catch up ever since.

Go listen to OHMSS or YOLT score and then some of Arnold's efforts and try to even say that seriously.

Maybe you were joking or you need to make an appointment at the Doctors to get your ears syringed.
